Soviet "Cold War" Airbase recommendations?

If you would like to fly from some other airfields belonging to the former Warsaw Pact, I'd recommend the following as well:

EPML Mielec aerodrome. This is a PZL factory aerodrome with all the facilities. During the Cold War they were building licensed MiG-15's, MiG-19's. Now they are building Black Hawks ;) Payware quality.

EPKP Zegrze Pomorskie aerodrome. Used during the Cold War as well, located in the NW Poland, close to the Baltic sea. High quality.

Both are using photoreal ground and the runway, aprons and taxiways are done in 3d

Thanks, Lucas, the more the merrier. I think it's time I began flying my Warsaw Pact iron from their home soil rather than from my usual Groom Lake and KEDW.:icon_lol:

Out of curiosity what is the best jets to fly out of there, Is there a top quality Mig29 out there? what is available?

MiG 15 and 17 by Bear Studios/Flight 1 were recently updated to be fully native. Virtavia made a few Soviet planes as well, like Tupolev "Blinder". L-39 Albatros is great one, too. There is also a company AFS-Design, but those are not FSX native and the customer reviews in Simmarket are poor. For the civilian props/jets, there is PZL Wilga by Aerosoft and few Russian tubeliners. Personally, I am waiting for the native Mi-24 "Hind" by Nemeth.

Thanks for that :salute:

In addition to the above mentioned:

There is Ivan Jurcaga's excellent MiG-21MF.

Project Tupolev has their FSX-Native Tu-154B-2, and it comes with Russian government liveries. In addition, there is another Air Force livery here (FS9-era liveries work with the FSX model with proper cfg changes):

Flight1 has a Su-27 Flanker.

EDIT: Looks like Stefano mentioned the MiG while I was typing!

Gosh, how could I forget about Ivan's MiG-21... This is one of the finest freeware birds for the FSX!

Great thread!

Back to KD's original query - I suprised no one has brought this one up. http://lhsimulations.hu/?page_id=144&lang=en

LH Simulations - Hungarian scenery. Two of their scenery packs are / have a military side - Debrecen in particular, is simply mind-blowing. There are moving trains and cars - I removed a bunch of the resource intense blgs in order to make it work well on my old pc - having removed them, it works well. For those whose machines can take full advantage of the details, I can only imagine how much better it is. Sarmellek is fantastic too.

Hard to believe this quality of product is freeware ...

Enjoy!

Thanks again to all who posted. It's time for me to dust off my MiG's,Tupolevs,Antonovs etc.

Also, speaking of freeware native fsx Eastern Bloc aircraft...let's not forget Piglet's fantastic An-32 and Doughbree Designs L-159A and wasn't there a MiG-25 too?
