Spanish Civil War and prattling on like I do

HI TO ALL!. That´s a great plane Milton but is it multilod? if it´s not , could u add it more lods?:jump:

It is not multi-LOD, dang! It really is a bit "heavy" for CFS2 without some serious pre-conversion prep. And that may be the issue Oldwheat.

Is there a guideline on the LOD's somewhere?

Multi-res is a piece of cake, mostly a matter of taking away parts & doing a stick 'model' for the far distance LOD. Of course, I presume that you are using Gmax but it should be similar to FSDS. It's animations that I can't seem to get the hang of :banghead: , because it is so intimidating to me I'm sure.

Thanks ... what I need an idea about is what LOD's to use for what ranges. The makemdl requirements for the sim would be the same whether using gmax or FSDS.

CTDs in CFS 2 with converted FS 9 aircraft can also be caused by the lights section. I think it needs the hex editor to remove the offending lines from the model file.

Here is a copy of the info as posted by DBolt sometime ago.

"You need to remove the "g_lightStates" variable from the DICT section of the mdl. It just can be done with a hexeditor, but it's not so hard.
First, locate the DICT section, close of the CFS2 tag. Then, you need to locate the following sequence of bites inside it:
9d e9 f0 57 23 05 9c 4e bc b6 12 bb 2f e7 3f 06
That is the "g_lightStates" ID number. Just replace the bites with zeros. Don't be tempted to remove the data, as it will mess up the mdl.
It should work with many aircrafts with the same problem."

Milton,

It takes a lot of playing with lod numbers and checking in the sim. See what works best. Here's what I have been playing around with for this aircraft - LOD_100(closest, most detail), 090, 060, 040, 030, 010 and a separate interior. While zooming in and out in the sim, the model should change LODs without noticing too much. Its a balance of quality and performance.

Don't worry, I didn't forget about this project.

Note the poly counts.

Tobob,
Fantastic work, Could you do an artical on the subject so I may include it in a future issue of the magazine.
Many thanks.
RJ.

Tobob,

Excellent work! Beautiful results at each stage! Frankly, I had forgotten that you were working on this as I have so many projects in progress right now. I really appreciate your efforts. I would like to learn this as well but it seems you have it mastered. :applause: :medals:

Milton,

I don't blame you for forgetting, it has been a while since we last spoke. I have many many projects as well. It can be overwhelming but keeps things interesting I suppose. Thanks for the appreciation. I have to thank you for the suberb model!

I can send you the source files if you would like to check them out? I'm willing to help with any questions you may have. PM me your email again. Would you mind if I include pictures of the Avia 51 in an article for Robert John?

Also I did have to use the hex edit that Jadg described above. Not a big deal but needs to be done after each compile.

Hi Tobob/Milton,
The format I use is otd (OpenOffice.org).
I don't need any scorce files at the moment thanks, but keep them my ask later.
Articles with pictures makes a good articles

Looks like the focus here is on the 109's but if anyone would like to convert this Avia 151 to CFS2, I am willing to help.

Actually, I am quite board with 109s. In fact that's what I like about the SCW, flying I-15s, He-51s, Fiat Cr-32s, and anything else you can thik of that was out-dated by the monoplanes of the 1940's.
