OT--Richard Bach seriously hurt in crash

pbearsailor

SOH-CM-2025
Richard Bach is in critical condition in hospital after a crash yesterday on Orcas Island. He was apparently going into one of the grass strips on Orcas with his little amphib (a Sea Ray, I think) and clipped some power lines on final. http://www.sanjuanislander.com/isla...uts-power-line-crashes-off-san-juan-valley-rd I so hope he will be ok.

He's always been one of my heroes. Still have a copy of Flying magazine from 1975 with Bach writing about his BD-5 jet. "Stranger to the Ground", "Biplane", and "Nothing by Chance" are some of the best books about the pure joy of being in the sky that have ever been written.

I just missed meeting him, when he flew into the airfield I was flying from at the time. That was too bad. A great author. May he have a speedy recovery!

Another San Juans writer was Ernie Gahn, my flight instructor had bought his Bucker Jungmiester, which had been previously owned by Mira Slovak, a well known aerobatic of many years ago.

Nice area but way too pricey for we mere mortals today. Best wishes to mr Bach for a speedy and full recovery.
