Operation Leader released!

stuart277

SOH-CM-2025
Hi All
I have been working on four missions relating to Operation Leader, a joint USN - RN attack on the German held bases in Norway in October 1943.
They are attached as a zip file.

The file has some background information and an installation readme.

I would appreciate any feedback as I am concerned that the installation readme may be missing some important add-ons.

Any feedback on the structure of the missions would also be appreciated.

This is my second set of missions.

Cheers,

Stuart

Stuart,

I've toyed with the notion of doing this in the past...it's really nice to see someone else taking a crack at missions! I scanned the readme and noticed a couple of issues, but nothing major leaps out at me. I'll offer more feedback tomorrow, but sleep is calling my name loudly.

Stuart,

I'm still working on this. If you don't mind, how would you feel about a GSL harbor at Bodoe? (I'm kind of building it now...)

Guess your break time is over. :icon_lol:

Talon,

No, I am helping out a friend. Part of that whole passing on our knowledge thing that we've been discussing. We need to support members who are making endeavors instead of griping that nobody seems to want to do anything.

Stuart277,

I turned the harbor at Bodoe into GSL, and included the gob for the Bodoe land airfield in it. I also adjusted the layout to fit the scenery modifications to assist you in that regard.

The biggest change was in the readme, I added hyperlinks for you, as well as a couple new items needed from the GSL modification.

Please note: I did not change the missions at all; you will need to go through them and eliminate the infrastructure objects in those missions, and use or modify my layout as you please. The GSL file does not contain any vehicles, ships, or AA guns, those must always be separate from the GSL file.

The reason for this is that ships will not sink, guns will not fire, and vehicles will not fire weapons if they are in the GSL layer.

Trees on Bodo Airfield

Hi Rami
Regarding the PM, I have checked out the Bodo Airfield and it has trees and buildings on both ends of the runway. I have attached a picture it.
Again, thanks for your efforts.
:salute:
I will have a look at Martins Program, Robert's magazine will be a good help.
Cheers
Stuart

Stuart,

Aha! This answers my head-scratcher. It would appear that you installed these airfields prior to June of last year, or have the version from the archive. Bodoe and a few other airfields were moved so that they do not conflict with Rhumbaflappy's newer Watermasks. I put a description of what was moved in the new library...

"NOTE: This package was modified on 05/17/2011 to include the revised airfields at Banak and Lake Lesjaskog. - SOH Librarian.

NOTE: This package was modified again on 06/11/2011 to include the revised airfields at Bodoe, Bodoe seaplane, and Trondheim Sea. - SOH Librarian."

Here is a link to the package: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/local_links.php?action=jump&catid=45&id=3348

If you look at this pic, the revised location for this airfield eliminates the part of the bitmap that is over water.

Stuart,

No problem! As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words. :mixedsmi:

Hi Stuart,

I flew the four missions and everything worked well. Bodø harbour and the surrounding mountainous coastal scenery look spectacular (thanks Rami).

The one very minor error I could find is "Langley" should read "Ranger" in mission 4.

Thanks a lot,

Kevin

Thanks Kevin.
Well spotted!:jump:
So far, I will just change the positioning of some of the AA in the Layout to suit the GSL and move a couple of the ships.

as well as renaming the Langley

Stuart,

Here's pics of s skin for the Freeware FDG SBD5 in the Grey scheme used at that time.

If interested let me know.

Talon

Thanks Talon

Hi Talon
The FDG SBD5 in the Grey scheme would be a handy edition. The one I have used is from the Pacific Theatre, but it looks pretty good on the deck of the Ranger.
I have only just found a TBF from a set of missions for the Ranger by Stavros "Steve" Andreou. It looks really good but I can't get the bombdoors to open.
Thanks
Stuart

I must have missed something on my install.

Hi All
I have been checking Rami's excellent Bodo GSL but I have a couple of odd showings.
There are some ships and a dock on land near the Radar station.
There are also a couple of gun emplacements in the middle of the harbour and another, in the water near the radar tower.

I think I have followed Rami's instructions correctly. But maybe not!
I have missed something somewhere.
Cheers

Stuart,

Yeah...that area of the world does not run on "Sander's" files, because it's too far north. If you don't have Rhumba's watermask files installed, (or you are missing some) that might be part of the problem.
