DDS Plugin for Paint Shop Pro 8.10

Img2DDS

Hi,

For what it's worth, I do all my FSX DDS conversions using a little custom prog that invokes ImageTool, DxTex, and IrfanView as needed. It usually does what I expect it to do. You basically drag your source files onto a desktop link and that is it. No switches, no batch file editing. Have just added a readme and some notes:

ImgToDDS

Img2DDS creates FSX DDS files from various input formats. Creates alpha
channel DXT5 DDS's if there is an additional _a file in the same folder (NOT psd or tga), else
creates DXT1 DDS. Creates bump map if PSD file name contains string
_BUMP. Auto-flips images. No MIP's by default. Invokes local copies of
IrfanView, ImageTool, and DxTex.

Installation: Copy the zipped files to C:\Img2DDS\ and drag the link file
Img2DDS.bat-link.lnk to desktop.

Operation: Set an FSX target folder and drag and drop source files onto the desktop icon.

To set FSX target folder drop a texture folder's texture.cfg onto Img2DDS.bat-link
once. Note, the file name texture.cfg must be all lower case!

Link here, hope it will work for you.

In regards to PSP...

I also prefer PSP, I use 9, and the main gripe I have is; limited to 32bit (4gb memory)....

Any way around that one?

Joseph

A big limitation that one. Even the latest version is still only 32 bit which is unhelpful.

This forum page discussed the issue and provides a link to a program which let's you use the full 4GB (rather than the 2GB PSP seems to use). Haven't tried the program myself. Any guinea pigs?

Did you ever get bump maps working?

Here's what I do to make bump maps:

You will need the following tools though:

GIMP
Normal Map plug in for GIMP
ImageMagick
dxtex

In PSP I create a greyscale image. Black is low bumps and white is high bumps with mid grey being flat. Export that as a bmp

Interesting discussion. I found that Arno's ModelconverterX is a great help with bump maps. Just create the normal map in Gimp / PS and wash it through the texture converter under /special tools/ in MCX. It separates and reassigns all the rgb/alpha layers automatically into the proper format, and can save it in dds.
It also converts bmp textures assigned to a model in dds, needless to say. I use that tool extensively as post processing tool for GMAX 3D work.

Cheers,
Mark

Ant,

Actually, I just tested this out... Seems to be working. Now about processing 2048x2048 .dds within dxtbmp...

:)

I also just ran the program for PSP 8.10. I do my FSX textures at 4096x4096 and after you get a dozen or two layers, just trying to copy something sends it into a tailspin. . .in many cases, causing it to lock up and before I've had a chance to save. There have been many projects I dropped because I couldn't bear the thought of starting over from scratch. I'll have to load one of those and see what happens. Thanks for the HU!!
