I found this online test to compare browser speeds. http://peacekeeper.futuremark.com/

If you have multiple browsers on your pc this program will compare them, it takes about two or three minutes each.
IE9 on my Vista 64 unit recieved a rating of 1024.
IE8 on my very old XP 32 unit rated a 56.
It also checks pads and pods.

It would be interesting to see what others here are getting.

I wonder if the download speed of your carrier is taken into account? Mine is a microwave system from a nearby mountain and I only get 1,200 download speed.

How were the tests selected and created?

To create the tests we used a profiler to analyze JavaScript usage while browsing popular websites such as YouTube, Facebook, GMail and Meebo. The profiler collected data on the frequency in which different JavaScript functions were called on these sites and we used this data to create specific weighted tests for each function. In some situations the profiler is not able to collect accurate data and for these, we implemented the tests using common techniques and components to simulate the requirements of a typical webpage.

What does it NOT test?

Peacekeeper is a JavaScript performance benchmark. It does not test your browser’s other features nor does it measure its security functionality. It does not check for W3C conformity, nor does it test external components such as Flash, though some add-ons may have a negative impact on the browsers performance in general. It does not test, nor is the score influenced by, your internet connection speed or latency.
 
Hmmm..again. Chrome got 4653, despite missing a few tests..

Will try again tomorrow - don't believe these.

Internex Explorer 8 = 115
...And I have absolutely no idea what those numbers tell me, other than that I apparently have a coal-burning computer compared to the rest of you with way higher numbers.
 
Re-tested FF16. Cleared cookies, and a much faster connection this morning. (come on, it's bound to make a difference !) 2476.
 
FF16.01 got 2275 on my system. No idea what that means.....and really could care less.....I have been happy with FF for a few years now and will stick with it.

I use Pale Moon, currently v15.2 - x64.
I am happy with its performance.
As a matter of policy, I keep well clear of these things.
In my experience 99% of them finish up saying " Oh, BTW, we identified several hundred and umpteen potential problems on your computer"
Next thing is, "Our free scan confirmed that - but just send your CC details and we'll fix it all."

Call me a grumpy ould cynic if you will. ( George is excused from this - he knows me of old :icon_lol: )

One thing I see in this thread is that IE8 is just terrible on three machines. Is there a better browser for a ten year old PC running XP and having 1gig of memory, which is all it will hold.

Might try Firefox, I have used Mozilla browsers for years since Mozilla was given the code for Netscape browsers by American On Line for $1.00! Firefox: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/fx/#desktop If that is to much Mozilla also has SeaMonkey which takes up less disk space. SeaMonkey: http://www.seamonkey-project.org/releases/
 
This is on the wife's AMD powered desktop that is about 7 years old;

Chrome- 2766

I haven't tried on my flight sim system yet so I don't know how the intel i7 will perform or if the processor makes any difference at all in this test.
