Reading this did NOT make me happy.....

I guess that means when I turn 60 (not much longer) and ANG Military retirement kicks in, that Tricare won't even be an option anymore, that truly Sucks :censored:
 
Oh Man....Could be Worse!

A monthly medical insurance premium for wife and me would be $1,200+, so I feel that there is still a benefit to Tricare Standard. That assumes it will still be there in 2 years when I can start my 'reserve' retirement. What happened to "tax the rich" and leave government benefits alone? Isn't that why Obama got re-elected?

Oh I know things could be worse. But I see this change as just the beginning of erosion of benefits. Not good.
 
I've foreseen this coming for awhile... It is to unfortunate that those of us that use things responsibly have to suffer with those who don't. I am sure back in the day sick call used to actually be for legitimate reasons. Unfortunately now people go just to get out of work. I don't expect it to be to long before they start wanting to charge active duty member for going to medical and the like. It just sucks that it is striking the retirees the way it is. I won't touch the political side of things.. Other than to say that we (as military personnel) are not his favorite group of people. So the whole "leave gov benefits alone" was not meant for us.
 
Let me just point out to all U.S. Veterans'....what's the purpose of a separate health care system for military (retired and active duty), when there's a socialized health plan?

You can see this one coming a mile away......

Shows what the gooberment's promises are worth. Sorry bastages..... I don't see them biting the bullet and giving up their healthcare.

You sure that doesn't read "F you for your service"? I have 8 years left to receive my retirement benefits, at least I've got retirement medical from my employer, unless the jackass county supervisors take that away too.

Yep.

DoD switched the military dependent's care too, dental is now through MetLife. That switch has increased the deductible that subscribers pay, so it costs them more to go to the dentist, but the plan pays dentists less than United Concordia paid, MetLife seems to be the only winner in the equation.

Check me on this, but the article is talking about Tricare Prime, which is different from Tricare Standard (Tricare for Life), which is what we ANG retirees get. I think you should be ok.....for now. Even in this economic/political environment, I can't imagine their cutting us off completely.

What they seem to be doing is cutting down on the travel to facilities, which are closing faster and faster.

I hope I'm right.

I believe you are absolutely right , KellyB . I turned 65 last October and I am now on Medicare/Tricare For Life(Retired Air Force Reserves) . I don't think Tricare for Life is going to take a hit in 2013 . I know that retiree benefits are eroding away slowly or getting more expensive . Not trying to invoke any politics here but the current tend always seemed to me like " Robin Hood in Reverse !" Take from the poor and give to the rich .

Pete, I have 8 years as a gray area retiree, you know I have all privileges except pay and medical, at age 60 full retirement kicks in and I'm off the Fleet Reserve list too. That said, looks like I won't have much to look forward too.

Did that mean you took early retirement? Not familiar with the gray area term.

There's a brand new VA clinic about to open in nearby Cape Coral. I have never used any VA facility since retiring in 97, but with all this healthcare costs increasing, I will register to use it. Long lines, etc..., but hey, at least it is there.....
