....Quite awhile back there was a flurry of posts about this airplane. Two or three people posted WIPs of repaints. My question for this morning is:

What happened to those repaints? I was really looking forward to the YELLOW USAF version. :jump:

I was wondering the same thing......there was a baremetal scheme being done also but forget who was doing it.....thats the one I was looking for.

I suppose the reason I have such an affinity for the yellow paint scheme is that back in the early 1950s, the skies down in South Georgia where I grew up, were filled with them. They were from Bainbridge AB, Georgia, Spence Field, Georgia, and Mariannia, Florida. My father worked for Southern Airways at Bainbridge, Georgia. It along with a lot of the other contract flying schools closed the year before I joined the Air Force.

I noticed this thread and decided to post on SOH for the first time, so hi everyone!

I was looking forward to those repaints too. I think Warwick Carter's Texan is among the best freeware planes available and one of those I fly most in fsx.

I made four repaints for it a while ago. They were my first attempts at an aluminium finish so I didn't upload them anywhere. But since there seems to be some demand, here's a pic. I would have worked at the T-6 harder but to be honest I find it a bugger to paint.
The schemes are of ww2 aircraft which would have been earlier models of the texan, with very obvious differences: no spinner, different canopy framing, etc. But the markings themselves are basically accurate.

May I offer you some encouragement. I think that's a good looking paint job. Please let the community see the others.

I was going to do two navy SNJ schemes too but never got that far. Getting those four more or less finished was very frustrating, especially with the Gimp not fighting fair...

As I said, what you've got here are my first attempts at an aluminium finish. I was going for a slighly used/toned down aspect. Not easy!

I've also got some skins for Tim Conrad's Meyers 200. I'll start a new thread for those later on.

Well! In my humble opinion, you succeeded! Should you ever decide to try a YELLOW 1950s version, you'd make this old South Georgia Redneck happy.:wiggle:

I've never found it easy to make a convincing natural metal finish. I generally don't even attempt it on the few aircraft I've skinned.
