Avia 57 Wheel version for FSX (Portover)?

FSX68

Banned
I managed to do a port over to FSX of Milton's Avia 57 FS9 version. It works but I had to borrow the prop texture from the fsx version and put it in each of the fs9 version.
I don't suppose that there will be an Official FSX portover version......:kilroy:

I tried to combine all of the model and air data from the FS9 version to the Avia 57 float and that did not work. Was hoping to have both land and float combined in one folder.

richoday;

Both wheeled and float versions are already available for FSX and FS9.

Keep the aircraft in separate folders, as released.

This is neccessary bcause of the essential differences in aircraft.cfg.

You can, however, interchange textures according to taste providing you make the relevant aircraft.cfg entries.

Thanks Nigel,

I installed BOTH wheel and float fersion in my FSX directory and they have they have their own folder names however (and I'm not complaining) when you only get avia57 choice and all
wheel and float version are lumped into one area to choose from to fly. What that the desired effect?

I didn't see a avia57 choice separate from the avia57 floatView attachment 78094

Yes Sir, you're looking good.

The only entry I can't see there is: Avia 57 Cargo Float - Goodman Air Cargo.

Milton has promptly revised the entries;

I am re-uploading (editing) the FSX Port-over archive to add the missing effects and aircraft.cfg entry.

Thanks to those who gave the heads-up, and for your patience. My apologies to those affected.

EDIT: For those who already downloaded, the effects are available in the link posted above.

Here is the missing aircraft.cfg entry to pick up the 4th livery: (FSX PortOver only affected)

Hopefully we will get the texture for the Goodman float as well. Thanks.

The Goodman texture is in the package. Based on your screenshot, you might look in your Rift Valley texture folder to see if you dragged in there by mistake.

I'm not having much luck with this port over and maybe someone can show me where I'm going wrong or what I need to do.

I'm using FSX SP2/Acceleration...problematic, I know.

I get none of the textures when I bring the A/C up. Prop fix is working fine, but no textures -- just plain vanilla a/c.

Virtual cockpit goes dark in rain, but I can work around that using the other cockpit.

Suggestions on the textures?:kilroy:

TeaSea; Both Milton and myself have been testing these aircraft in FSX SP2/Acceleration for some time, so neither the model nor the sim are in question for compatability.

We need more to go on - did you do an install to a temp folder (reccomended method), or did you run the installer straight to sim?

Have you altered the aircraft.cfg?

Did you check the texture folders within the aircraft folder?

edit: If you stored the original download, try a fresh install to a TEMP folder, then manually transfer the elements to their relevant folders.

Regarding your cockpit goes dark in the rain, sounds like you need the FS9 to FSX VCRain fix available free at Flight1 and elsewhere. Just Google it.

Thank you gentlemen for your response.

Nigel, yes, I did install to a temp folder and copied both effects and the aircraft into the FSX "effects" and "Simobjects/airplanes" directories. No, I have not touched the CFG.

I have done a re-install. I did the install to a temp folder, then pasted the Avia57Float folder into the same folder as above. I replaced the files in the root folder with the "FSX PORTOVER UPDATES", yet I get the same results. Clearly this is something I'm doing wrong.

Milton, I was not aware of the fix you cited but I will address that.

Love both your work and I appreciate your patience.

Ahhhh, now I see. My mistake. I assume that you downloaded the FSX Portover version? I had already applied all the updates in that package. That FSX Updates folder was meant for the FS9 packaging only. I forgot to take it out of the FSX package. Please delete the FSX Updates folder.

And, the updates folder you have has a old aircraft.cfg. I am attaching the correct aircraft.cfg here. Try it and if you still have an issue, then we will go from there.

EDIT: And, if you downloaded teh FS9 package and applied the updates, same issue with the bad cfg file.

So, I started over and deleted all associated files. I then went to SOH Add-Ons Library and downloaded the "Avia57fxPkg.zip". Following that I executed the installation using a temporary file. I copied the effects files into the FSX "effects" folder, then copied the Avia57Float folder into "SIMOBJECTS/AIRPLANES".

I replaced the CFG with the file above.

When loading the aircraft I still see no paints. Internal to the cockpit looks fine. I see the black non-slip paint on the floats and the props with tips, but no other textures.

On the plus side FSX VCRain fix worked nicely...but no joy on the other issues.

I'm using a 64 Bit system running Win 7 should this make any difference.

Now that is strange Chris.

I am running XP SP3 and FSX SP2 and Accel using DX9 so I cannot speak to your issue.

Maybe someone else who has W/7 can vouch for the package in that setup.

You got me me scratchin' my head head though ... :kilroy:

I'm going to set is aside for a bit and come back at it. Sometimes you see something you missed. Really interesting aircraft though.....

Help for Teasea

Teasea,

I too use FSX with WIN 7 64 Bit and at first I had some issues but as you can see, all the floaters and wheeled version are installed into FSX. They have two separate directories
but FSX will pick up BOTH version up and offer you a choice of liveries within the two basic types. I did port over to FSX the FS9 version and was able to convert the bmps to DDS format.

Does anyone have the shockwave [lights] .cfg entries for all the models of the AVIA series planes.

Hopeing to see shockwave lights on these avia planes.
