Battle of Midway Hero Passes

RIP and hand salute to Lt. Jim Muri. :salute:
An air show fly-by down the Akagi's flight deck. Doesn't get any more ballsy than that.
Capt. Bert Earnest, USN (Ret.) passed away back in 2009. He lived in Virginia Beach and was the pilot of the only Torpedo Squadron 8 (VT-8) TBF Avenger to make it back to Midway.
 
The sacrifice of Torpedo 8 and actions of Jim Muri at Midway not only changed the course of the Pacific War they directly altered the course of the European War. The Japanese defeat at Midway finally convinced Stalin that Japan had its hands full in the Pacific and no longer posed a threat to him in the East. He released the Siberian reserves for duty against the Germans. The result was the victory at Stalingrad and all else that followed.
