One more Tragic and sad story..a young women..killed by a Male Lion..A Pet of sorts,Raised from a Cub!!....Humans must learn the Wild Prey Animal's world is not some Disney Fantasy. What with Snakes,Spiders, and other exotic animal's,hurting and killing people, like leave Arachnology in the lab.,,These occurrences are a reality....Leave them in the Zoo's stay out of the cages.Do not pet Gators,Do not sleep with Pythons, and do not hug Rattlesnakes!!Leave the Black Widows out of yer hair,....We remember that Women who slept with her Chimp. It .ripped off a vising friends face off!...Sad! Stupid,Insane!!

Well stated beana 51. It's always the human's fault except the animal ultimately gets shot for the foolishness or folly of that person.

This sort of thing is to be expected with the government, schools, and various do-gooder organizations teaching our kids and even adults that animals are our equal. They end up believing that animals (care) just like people.

this wasnt a pet, this place raises feline animals...well ok BIG cats..its more of a animal rescue, and its regulated by the Zoo systems,,last i heard on my local news last night..they have no idea why she went into the cage..she wasnt qualified to be in there..she was an intern, and she and one other person were the only people at work that day...was a stupid thing for her to do,she was probably arrogant and felt she knew best, and ended up dead for it....what upsets me the most is the fact they shot and killed the lion....it did nothing wrong...this human..which could be viewed two ways by the lion...one as prey...but the lion didnt seem to eat the girl...or two as a threat,to which he defended himself, and when the deputies arrived..they were probably yelling and were excited ,adrenilan flowing...and instead of doing the correct thing and shooting it with a tranquilizer...they shot the poor animal.....just not right..

and BTW...they should have dispatched animal control when they dispatched fire/EMS and the SO..the dispatcher knew the woman had been mauled by a lion...so response time for ACO to arrive would not have been an issue to her survival had the ACO been dispatch correctly...

end of rant

I agree with all of the above. If you work with animals or live in an area populated with predators i.e. mountain lions, you should understand your environment and maintain your respect and awareness. This young woman made a fatal mistake...it's a very sad story.
What raises concern for me is this tendency I have seen in the last few years for law enforcement to use lethal force when entering a non lethal situation. There are dozens of stories of dogs being shot or wounded when PD responds on simple warrants. I'm not down on PD, so please don't take my statement as anti police.

IMHO it's time to regain our sense of sanity in our world.
300 people a year are tazed to death by accident and countless animals are shot un-necessarily.

Stop going in the cages with lions...
Don't swim with sharks and killer Orca...
Stop thinking everyone is Bin Laden...he's dead
Stop being so all fired up to go Rambo if the situation does not require it.

The animal should have been tranqualized long before PD got there. Where were the pre-cautions???
Unfortunately the animal would have had a life of misery after this incident because after killing a human it would be imprinted with this behavior. Living sequestered in a cage would not be a life either.

Oh yeah...stop caging animals for our own curiosity and pleasure.

Here in Florida, and not upstate NY..the Climate is condusive to many tropical varmints..No longer do our local pet feature "That puppy in The window"..Or the Hamster, and the venerable Gold fish...Now That inventory of non native animals is being sold,by Chain Pet Stores is rampant! The market for exotic creatures has gone wild. And they ,under the cover of the law.are making huge money..With no consience as to its effects!

Today in Florida ,your neighbor may be housing poisonous snakes...Burmese Pythons, and lizards....They buy them for themselves, and worse for their kids...In particular, the Burmese PYTHON,ONCE A SMALL SNAKE AT HOME , WHICH GROWS ON LIVE FOOD,BECOMES UNIMAGINABLE,AND THEN TURNED LOSE INTO THE PARKS! Growing in excess of 8 to 26 ft.They are native to India, China, the Malay Peninsula, and some islands of the East Indies. Burmese pythons have been reported in extreme south Florida since the 1980s, and an established population is now located mainly within the bounds of Everglades National Park.
.
.So to these back yard ZOOS!..Lions ,tigers,And Things...sheer insanity.under the guise of Animal protection by unlicensed,people../when its Hurricane season here, they get out...I KID YOU NOT!

Today ,in our Everglades, the only remaining primaeval part of Florida.,It has been invaded by Alien Burmese Pythons. They upset the delicate balance of the glades...DECIMATING NATIVE BIRDS, DEER,SMALL ANIMALS,AND YES EVEN TO INCLUDE OUR
ALLIGATORS!..At the Miami airport, along with all contraband, dope Ect Ect is the business of smuggling Illegal Exotic animals into the USA.

On occasion small children have been killed in their cribs by Pythons ,and careless parents!

Today, Florida Keys today are doing battle with Super Rats.A pet owner ,who was breeding these varmints let them loose....and over night its now an epidemic..Who in their right mind who love super Rats. Also a problem are HOARDER PET OWNERS...,Houses with hundreds of cats and dogs...Presenting health hazards for all!

I do not understand why Florida does not ban these exotic animals?...Lately ,and only lately, one Senator has woken up to this invasion..It may be too late. The Projected spreading of Burmese Pythons now includes the State of Georgia and beyond!..Hunts are now being organized. The results not to promising.....today Florida is not the way early Explores seen it..Calling it FLOWERS!..no More Now!....Most Plants Trees,Animals are introduced......Like that Weeping Indian over pollution, ,years ago,I think Ponce De Leon would also cry.....Vin!!..Thanx For Letting me BLOAVATE with You!!

Here in Floria Right thinking People DO NOT PET GATORS..Those who do are Called "LEFTY"...<label for="rb_iconid_24">

I've seen this in St. Petersburg, FL, where I live. Most of the time it is a LOOSE dog (usually ID'd as a Pit Bull) that has no one around to control it and charges someone -- either the officer and/or a bystander. The cop does not have the time to call Animal Control and wait for them if the public safety is at immediate risk -- he terminates the threat to HUMAN BEINGS in the manner to which he has been trained. Unfortunately, there are those (and I'm NOT pointing at you) who believe the dog has the same rights (or better) as humans rather than realize that the owners of the animals are the responsible party and perpetrated the situation to be solved by the police. Personally, in situations like this, I don't second-guess the cops if they eliminated the threat.

Nice rant...

Seems she WASN'T in Cous Cous cage (he somehow got out of his enclosure)... AND seems (according to a video of the founder Dale Anderson) the deputies followed safety protocol by shooting the lion.

Btw, by all means go ahead and carry a taser... if you think it will stop a 350-500 lb. apex predator more "power" to you. Me? I think at best you will just piss it off.

:applause: & :salute:

I won't second guess either... despite being in the same country I'm thousands of miles from the incident. I know I wanted to go home each night after my shift... I'd imagine these officers did too.

And as you say... the safety of the Public comes first!

watch KCRA tv 3 ...said again tonight she entered the lions cage for unknown reasons, she had even told her father several times in the past, that as a intern she was not allowed in the cages, the deputies claimed they could not enter the cage because the lion was "near" the body, and acting aggressive..and they shot it imediatly..also..the girls neck was broken when the lion swated her..she was not mauled...

maybe the "stories" are begining to change as time goes on???? odd that details are differant....

What I saw about the gal being in the being in the 'main enclosure' and Cous Cous getting out of his smaller cage was reported on Anderson Cooper tonight.

Also same is reported at the Washington Post (see the 4th paragraph): http://www.washingtonpost.com/busin...261cd0-8785-11e2-a80b-3edc779b676f_story.html

This is what irks me so much Dave... the stupid news agencies - in such a rush to report "facts" - can't get the story 'right'.

yup...i stand corrected...i just saw the nes here before i posted and it never mentioned anything about this part..or "new finding"...it sure makes alot more sense now..even the part about killing the lion rather than knocking it out...sometimes i wonder why i watch the news...they seem to tell you what they want to....my local news still doesnt want to say the woman who had the heart attack in frezno or where ever that was had a DNR on record....all that nurse had to say was that and it would have been a mute point....makes me wonder tooo.....does that care home only have residents with DNRs?..there is one here in town....im looking for a place for when my folks "go",and thats one of the questions i got asked, was told i needed to have one to be allowed in....kinda scarey in away...

Latest reports have her talking to a coworker on the cell at the time of the attack.
Holy cow!!!! Yakking on the cell cleaning out the lions cage a real let it ring or < I'M really busy I'll call ya back later> moment if ever there was one.
