Flight Sim Seating Arrangements ?

As I find myself in need of a new computer chair, because my old "office" chair has become just to uncomfortable, and is causing me back problem, I was wondering what sort of seating arrangements other simmers used and if anyone had any recommendations for a good all round sim/computer chair.

I have an office chair, but its a high end Executive style one I got through my local office supply store.
Has about 9 adjustment areas, plenty of gel padding in areas for hours of sitting in front of the computer.
Folks thought I was crazy to spend that much on a chair, few hundred dollars.

It's held up way better than the ones available at a discount store.
Most of those discount store types lasted me a couple years, and became quickly uncomfortable, and got thrown away.
This one is going onto a decade now, and is about as tightly built as the day it was delivered.
Some of the padding on the arm rests is a little worn, but those actually could be replaced.

Over the years, I have gone through several types of chairs. I've gone the route of buying the cheapest office chair at Walmart...to a fancy simchair setup. My experience is, as the old saying goes, you get what you pay for. My current chair was bought off of Amazon.com.

All in all, I am quite satisfied with it. VERY comfortable for my back. Not to say it would be for yours. AND the armrests are the perfect height.

It's very true, you do get what you pay for, unfortunately here in the U.K everything is a lot more expensive! I've seen very basic looking office chairs selling for £200-300 ($300-$460), and the trouble is, you have to buy sight un-seen, so you don't know what it's going to be like until you get it and assemble it.
I've got my wife looking through the office suppliers catalogue that she uses, I'll let you know how I get on.

I have two office chairs and which one I use is dependent on which the cat has decided to sleep on.
One of the office chairs has some extra back support which I bought from B&M Bargains. Only cost a few quid, but it does the trick. This chair also has a towel wrapped around one of the armrests to provide extra comfort.

Which in this case is why you should go find a store and test drive one.
It is your posterior that is going to be parked in for long periods of time.
You need to find out if it is something you will like to sit in.

As I said, mine was expensive, but has lasted me 10 years. Well, more.
At the original price, that works out to a little over $40 a year worth of use.
A good investment and a bargain.
Especially for the amount of time its been sat in. :icon_lol:
 
If you're buying in the UK (hello old chap, from another in Blighty :wavey:) then go for an 8-hour rated chair iirc. Just keep the kids - or grandkids as applicable - off it. Mine played with the height adjustment so much it won't stay at the height I prefer any more. But it is comfortable!

If you're sitting in it longer than that at a stretch then I don't want to clean the crumbs from your keyboard...
 
I used to be in a business that required sitting in a chair for long hours and working at the computer. I tried several "cheap" chairs (less than $200/ea.) Using these I managed to bruise my coccyx so severely it took 10 months to completely recover. I sat in a Herman Miller Mirra chair in a corporate computer center. I didn't look like much but boy it was comfortable. I looked on Craigslist and found one used in good nick for $450 US. Haven't had any problems since.

you really do get what you pay, anything under £100 will get you cheap crap really, fine for a couple hours a day, but rudy useless for long periods.

You can get a pretty good ones in the £150 -£200 though if you shop about, i've currently got a ergo-tek one (http://www.officefurnitureonline.co.uk/shop/ergo-tek-mesh-manager-chair.html) which after a year or so is still standing up really well to near-constant use. Only issues i've had are i had to take the arm rests off for it to fit under me desk nicely (but then i've got a pretty strange desk) and the bottom of the base is pretty darn sharp, it'll easy scrape half your ankle off if you move forward and have your foot in the wrong place! :blind: O and the back bit can get really dusty if you dont wipe it down every now and again. Other than that though its been great.
 
I buy my chairs through local office supply stores. My last chair proved to have too little padding in the seat, so it went to the office as I'm not actually at my desk all that much. My current chair felt great, but soon the seat padding began to flatten. I now have a seat cushion tied to the chair. Yes, you do get what you pay for and so far it seems that you don't get much of a chair in the under $200 range.
