I was on an airliner that had a pressurization failure in flight. Fortunately we weren't too high and descent to safe breathing altitude was fairly short. What happens first is you suddenly involuntarily exhale due to the decrease in pressure in the cabin. Your ears pop at the same time. You then begin descending immediately after that happens. The masks didn't come down so we must have pretty close to 10 grand, or wherever they decide you don't need oxygen any more. Interesting.
 
I told everybody flying would go out the window once open cockpits were abandoned, but would they listen?...

It's a weird experience, especially when you do it to yourself, someone (ok me) somehow bumped the cabin press/dump valve in a trusty King Air. Had the great pleasure of putting all the "spaghetti" back in the overhead prior to landing (just so the ground crew wouldn't laugh).
