Mercedes Awaiting Testing Verdict

Only a slap on the wrist.. Guess the FIA can't risk Pirelli turning its back on F1.

Announcer's today brought up that they (FIA) couldn't penalize Mercedes like McLaren was fined a few years back due to the large numbers of teams that Mercedes is providing engines to....(i.e. - you don't want to force Mercedes out of F1)...

You also have to consider that the FIA DID sanction this in a way... at least Charlie Whiting and co had approved it, though legal advice was sought, It seems like a storm in a teacup brewed up by Redbull as usual taking over the Ferrari slot as complainers in chief.

End of the day, Pirelli needed 2013 data, from a 2013 car to sort the 2013 tyre problem. No point using a car complying with different regs.

Could it have been handled better? yes. Blacked out helmets? come on guys... wrong? no. Mercedes had problems, they wanted to see how.

losing the young driver test? after that test they had for free, seems only fair, after all, it was Mercedes' QC that suggested it.

All resolved, but Redbull will still whine. They need to paint their cars red and have done with it.

Before the tire test, Mercedes scored 62 points in five races, after Barcelona they scored 99 points in three races and won two races..

Mercedes did find something during those tests and they got of very easy!

Yes they did but then again - the FIA thought it would've been detrimental if they were fined as McLaren...and they didn't want an engine manufacturer walking out or reducing themselves to only a works team.

Kinda reminds me of the leverage Ferrari used to have...

You say that... But Moncao, and Montreal are very different on tyre loading... less high speed high downforce corners to deal with, more traction corners... Different tyre wear issues on those tracks. By Silverstone, it was logical to presume they may have solved it, which it seems they did. Whether they learned how to use those tyres... I don't think there's evidence to say either way.
