Mario,

Here are the corrected files, with the entries included for the drop tanks. The Mc-202 could carry two 100-liter drop tanks. I made sure this was accurate when I modified the fuel capacity. The only problem is the wing racks drop, but one of the drop tanks does not. The wing racks should not drop.

Also, smaller drop tanks should be used, because these are ridiculously over-sized.

Mario,

When you did yours, you forgot to copy over using the clipboard in AirEd the entries for the two drop tanks. As far as the fuel is concerned, the airfile by Peperez is dead-on accurate. The main fuel tank in front of the pilot held 270 liters, the one behind the pilot held 80 liters, and each of the two reserve wing root tanks held 40 liters. The two wing-mounted drop tanks could hold 100 liters of fuel each.

As far as the performance is concerned, I prefer the files I already have by Peperez. The only thing I will change is I think the Mc-202 can roll better than it does at the moment, so I will alter the aircraft.cfg files and increase both the rudder and aileron effectiveness. As far as top speed, climbing, and diving performance, the airfile I have does a very good job hitting the specs required.

The one thing I do like is the .dp file, you did great work on that. However, you have to be careful in the [MISC_DATA] section, because the speed is listed in km/h, and the altitude is listed in meters.

[MISC_DATA]
unit_family=1
category=1
allegiance=6
max_group_size=8
min_speed=200
cruise_speed=430
max_speed=600

min_alt=50
cruise_alt=5600
max_alt=11500

entered_service=1/6/41
crew=1

Ok , i found the way to simply add the drop tanks in the airfile, i´ll make changes again but only in the peperez airfile.

Mario,

I already made the mods for the ailerons and rudder. Also, the .dp works fantastic, but where do I find the "canon?"

Mario,

Here is yet another one, the last historical mission before the Ohio arrives. (There is one additional fictional mission, as well as the two other missions which will be the hardest to modify)

"title_string"=Operation Mezzagosto - Final chances for success
"summary_string"=Attenzione, i piloti! Our combined efforts against this enemy convoy has been a tactical success, but the oiler Ohio has somehow managed to stay afloat and is being towed. If this ship makes it to Malta, her precious fuel will be utilized to increase their aerial operations and attacks on our own shipping, especially to Rommel, who is nearly at the gates of Cairo! Head out to her tattered hulk and finish the job.
"objective_string"=On the morning of 14 August, the Italians sent out a final effort to try & sink the oiler Ohio. Due to the intense fighter cover over the vessels, the five Stukas sent out were covered by an entire Gruppo of Macchi Mc-202s, but the British Spitfires were able to shoot down several of the Italian fighters. Though practically crippled, the oiler Ohio finally made it to Malta under tow on 15 August, 1942.
"intelligence_string"=Once airborne, you will meet up with the Folgores and then head out to the enemy vessels. The escort flights will hold positions above and below you to make sure that you can assault the remaining ships unmolested. Your primary target is the oiler Ohio. Make sure to keep an eye out for any fighters that get past the Macchis.
"player_aircraft_name_string"=Junkers Ju-87b 'Stuka'
"airfield_string"=Sicily - Gela

It would be a smart movement (in those times) to atack Malta bases at the same time , so the spitfires should leave alone the convoy. Or intercept the spitfires first in the midway betwen malta and the convoy. dont u think?

cheers

Mario,

It would, but remember, this period of the war saw the Reich at its territorial peak, and resources were spread very thin. The Mezzagosto campaign represented one of the last tactical successes in the theatre, the last being the First Battle of Kasserine Pass. Their available resources were simply too thin for simultaneous air attacks on short notice without drawing from the Reich or the OstFront.

The brunosk drop tanks looks better! :

Mario,

Here is the last mission for the Mezzagosto campaign....but it is completely fictional.

"title_string"=Operation Mezzagosto - Crashing the celebration
"summary_string"=Männer aufgepasst! The citizens of Malta are now celebrating the late arrival of the freighter Ohio, which somehow made it to Valletta being towed by destroyers, along with four other enemy merchant ships that managed to make it to the island despite heavy damage. We are going to crash the party by pounding the city, and hopefully destroying these ships at their moorings!
"objective_string"=While the Axis effort to completely annihilate the Pedestal convoy (known as Operation Mezzagosto) was seen as a tactical victory, the arrival of four merchants & the oiler Ohio allowed Malta to avoid surrender and continue fighting. In this sense, the British scored a strategic success, and exploited this victory by using Malta's air and sea assets to intercept and destroy Axis shipping. The inability of the Axis to put Malta out of action led directly to their shortages of supplies and ultimately their failure to win the Desert War in North Afrika.
"intelligence_string"=After getting airborne, you'll rendezvous with the bombers just prior to leaving Sicily & fly directly toward Malta. As part of the escorting force, it is your job to draw off and keep any enemy fighters away from these bombers, & you can bet that the British will be airborne with help from the recent fuel delivery. Use the Gustav's diving, speed, and climbing advantages to engage the enemy fighters if the need arises.
"player_aircraft_name_string"=Messerschmitt Bf-109g-2 (Trop)
"airfield_string"=Sicily - Gela Sattelite

Misson,

Here are the final two missions I am dreading working on...they are both attacks on the fleet when the fleet was still intact.

Misson,

I almost skipped this one, until I realized this one actually happened. I didn't think they would attack in the twilight, but apparently they did, and it was a huge success!

"title_string"=Operation Mezzagosto - Die Pantelleria Nachtangriff
"summary_string"=Achtung, Luftflotte pilots! We're undertaking one last assault on the convoy today. Take your place in a bomber and target the enemy cargo ships. You will attack them at night. We hope that this cover of darkness will offer you some protection. Those ships don't have to arrive at Malta!
"objective_string"=In the last air attack of the day, 30 Ju-88s laden with bombs and 7 He-111s equipped with torpedoes raided the convoy. Because the enemy carriers had turned back with Force Z & the remaining vessels were disorganized after an Italian torpedo attack that disabled two cruisers & nearly sank the Ohio, this assault proved devastating. Without air cover, the following merchants were hit by bombs during this mission: Rochester Castle, Empire Hope, & the Santa Elisa. Torpedo hits were scored on the Clan Ferguson, Deucalion, and Brisbane Star.
"intelligence_string"=We are hoping that the British carriers will not be able to muster up many aircraft after the pitched battle which took place earlier during the evening, because you'll fly the mission without any fighter protection. Your targets are the merchant vessels, especially the oiler Ohio.
"player_aircraft_name_string"=Heinkel He-111h-6
"airfield_string"=Italy - Pantelleria Marghana SWNE

A plus!
