"Tall Tail"

Bomber_12th

SOH-CM-2025
It had been a long time since I clocked any Mustang hours, and I thought to bring this one out for a flight. Nothing special, but a few screens I liked from an evening flight over the default FSX Minnesota countryside. With the extended tail, even though I still dial in 5-6 degrees right rudder trim on takeoff, it doesn't quite need it so badly as with a purely stock machine (tends to 'track' a bit better through all maneuvers as well).

The g-meter/accelerometer had been zeroed-out at the start of the flight. ; )

...nothing says "mustang" like Warbirdsim - so authentic...

Excellent screens as always John!

Superb shots as always John! I thought for a minute you were coming with info about a Cavalier tail tail Mustang... :)
Those birds with wing tanks look badass...

Thanks guys! As I said, it was just a "spur of the moment" flight, and with a Mustang that isn't too common of a sight. (You can still find some guys saying that it is a P-51H tail bolted onto the back of this aircraft, and others like it, which of course is not the case (far from it).) It was the simple modification by the NACA (forerunner to NASA) to make a new, taller vertical fin cap, that Cavalier ended up copying later on their Mustang rebuilds.

JensOle, there may be, not so long from now, a development on that front - definitely going to strive to do it up right.
