OOM, I've kind of missed it...NOT!

Bjoern

worst developer ever
Me about right now:

Awesome_rage.jpg

I've spent the last three hours finishing a relatively short hop. The first try was ended by a BSOD. Second try. Same location, CTD, "Computer ran out of Ram, yaddayaddayadda". Added /3gb and /userva=3072 to the boot.ini. Retried the flight without add-ons running in the background. Could extend the CTD till about five minutes before landing. Ram usage never exceeded 73% of my 4Gb installed in-flight. Happens in Norway, near Oslo (ENGM).

Anyone want to draw generic advice cards and post them here? Or maybe the magic crystal ball has an idea for a fix?

I can't look for one right now. I'm using my last avaible sane grey cells to hold me back from drowning this f-cking machine in the harbor while the rest is commanding my body to repeatedly bang my head against the desk.

Sorry, but I needed that.

man, you're hilarious

not that i know, but i would try a clean reinstall? did this happen before?

While I probably can't help, as it sounds like some sort of scenery problem and I know next to nothing about that, I DID recently find out that XP cannot address more than 4 gigs or RAM. I have 4 in my XP Pro rig but was always baffled as to why it only registered as 3.25. After reseating the RAM modules, juggling the order of their placement and testing them individually, I started my research only to find that XP can only use 4 gigs max which inludes any RAM on the video card. Just thought you might want to know.

Also, I saw this http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/showthread.php?t=7916 posted earlier and was wondering if perhaps you might be one of these folks? :costumes: I certainly hope not.

That's a heck of a lot of RAM that's in use. Do you have a lot of background running tasks/processes? Whilst I haven't simmed for quite a while, I don't think that my FSX has used more than 2/2.5GB of memory.

Also ....I'm assuming that you've checked your memory with memtest....maybe try some alternative RAM (borrow some from a mate?).

:)

No, no, no. To everything.

Just ended try #4 with a BSOD. NV4_disp.dll.
So off to install a new GFX driver. Those 18x series ones are so far worse than having to listen to Celine Dion.

OS is clean and tweaked, FSX is new and tweaked. I'm not doing this for the first time.

More generic stuff which may not be helpful.
<o:p> </o:p>
Are you using complicated addons? UTX-Europe? PMDG? Active Sky Advanced? Combination? (The first release of ASA seems to be having problems with OOMs.)

This also sounds vaguely like those AFCAD problems we had in FS9. (Have these been eliminated?)

UTX-E
ASX
RC4

UTX is always enabled, but hasn't given me (unfixable) OOMs so far.
<o:p> </o:p>
This also sounds vaguely like those AFCAD problems we had in FS9. (Have these been eliminated?)
Yep. No doubles.
<o:p> </o:p>

Try /userva=2560 instead...

From my Wiki Article: "As I stated previously, since it's a case of "robbing Peter to pay Paul," it may be best to allocate LESS than a full GB of VAS to applications, which is why Phil Taylor recommends using /2560 rather than the full /3072 MB."

http://forums.flightsim.com/fswiki/index.php/OOM_Error

I've used "2560" back in my 2Gb Ram days, but I was thinking more along lines of the 2Gb being the limiting factor.

- Edit: No joy with both "2560" and the 180.84s.

I believe it to be driver error..Vid driver I mean...

Have you installed a different driver lately ? Do you use a driver cleaer or manually clean all the bits of the regestry by hand?

Driver Sweeper, usually.
No driver error though, since it happened both with the 181.20s and the 180.84s.

I've tried disabling the custom scenery for ENGM. Didn't work. If all of my installed sceneries are affected, it would mean good night, FSX.

Off to bed now. F-cking piece of 1s and 0s.:banghead::angryfir::a1451::violent:

>>> "UTX is always enabled, but hasn't given me (unfixable) OOMs so far. " <<<

This would be my biggest suspect. The only time I run into OOMs is when UTX is involved.

I didn''t have any of the OOM problems with ASA that folks are having and I've never had an OOM caused by ASX.

I've got ASX and UTX both running about 99.9% of the time and no OOMs.

I can make an OOM in an instant though if I load up a few aircraft I know of that don't get along with UTX. :)

Nothing could possibly be worse than having to listen to Celine Dion, if she had been singing in the 70's Stanley Kubrick would have used her for conditioning Alex in a Clockwork Orange....:focus:<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" /><o:p></o:p>

By Tweaking and Tweaking FSX you eventually mess everything up.......:amen:..The last time FSX gave me trouble was before SP2. The only thing since then is keeping up to date with Video Drivers and Nvidia has done a very good job since about 8 months ago........Oh, yes.....I made sure my hardware was up to the task!!

The last time FSX gave me trouble was after SP2...*Cough*

Don't worry about that, Gera. My hardware is 110% up to running FSX. The only constant PITA is the video drivers. NVidia has apparently forgotten the word "stability"...

Now about that T-Shirt :173go1:

Ah, nothing to worry about. It just reads "NickN made me his beo-tch." :costumes:

Which, in fact is true. After an initial fight with him I've grown quite fond of his advice. He helped my with some hardware decisions and overclocking. I think I owe him more than a barrel of beer by now. The man simply knows his stuff! :jump:

This guy over at Simviation seems to know his stuff. If you haven't seen them yet, here's a couple guides I myself intend to follow...

I appreaciate the help, but I know Nick's tuning guide by heart. Done all the tweaks about a brazillion times by now. That's why I said
OS is clean and tweaked, FSX is new and tweaked. I'm not doing this for the first time.
a few posts above. ;)

Went back to the 178.24s for now, since the 180.84s decided to produce a BSOD upon firing up FSX today.
Will test everything tomorrow. I rather collect some victories in IL-2 instead of mindlessly raging about FSX.

Really, I had some concerns with Nvidia Drives in early 2008 but for the last 8 or so months they have been putting out
some pretty darn good ones.....have you "cleaned" all the remains of the previous ones before installing the latest?...much headaches can be avoided if you make sure all bits and pieces are totally out before you install the latest one....and if it works don´t change it for a new one unless you are tired of :gossip:it

...I have tried many Payware defragmenters and they all do the same work as Freeware ones, they do make a lot of----Technical Blurb---(bs) to charge for the astronomical prices they charge. Do not be fooled by them....
