whats happened to this DC2

I got a couple of spam cookies clicking on that. Cleaned em up with Spybot Search n Destroy. As to what happened, clearly that poor DC-2 was coming in for a landing, minding her own business, when she was snared and impaled by those "museum sticks" upon which so many otherwise dignified aeroplanes sadly end their days.

The DC-2 is using a special kit for landings at Schiphol Amsterdam. This is airport is about 5 meters below sea level.

Cheers,
Huub

When working on the flight sim video about the Great Race and the Uiver a few years ago, I saw pictures of this plane on some websites. It was put up as a memorial to the Uiver and it's landing at night at the racetrack in Albury, Austrailia. Last I read was that the plane was taken down from the poles because it was becoming unsafe. I don't know if it ever got fixed or what became of the airframe. I'm hoping Rob might drop by with some insights.

Well, in my pathetic defense, the question "what happened to this DC-2", without any supporting context, to go with what was a somewhat amusing photograph, seemed a to be a bit "in jest", as it were, and inviting of a non-serious response, which I was quick to provide, especially given my general negative disposition to famous planes displayed impaled, as that one is, on sticks. So that's my excuse. I don't know what happened to it! :icon_lol:
