USMC "Aces" campaign by Talon!

Sounds good man...standing by.

Hey, maybe you can do us a smally in this USMC camp by moving the flight line parked a/c back about 15 feet or so from the runway for the missions starting on Henderson Right. I'm losing too many wingmen to ground accidents on take off as they keep plowing into the parked P-39's and SBD's along the left of that runway. I tried to modify this myself in MB but kept getting CTD's whenever i attempted to save the changes. I even tried decreasing the collision bubble on the Wildcats to no avail (guess i should have done the same for the P-39's and SBD's).

This minor glitch aside, everything else is fine. Action beginning on Henderson Left is cool as well -- nothing parked on the flight line. But please don't delete anything, i like the look of the well stocked airfield.

Hmmm...You know, after my previous post, i just had a thought that maybe this was your idea for guaranteed attrition on the Marine side :icon_lol:

Bearcat,

Did you use the id # for the airbases I put in? That sometimes is the cause of the CTD.I did some hand editing which can cause it.

My wingmen nevered crashed into them but I have to I can move them and I will have to hand edit the missions again

This is one reason I like feedback, things that work for me may not work for others.

The next set of missions is setup a little different and since I know there is a problem I can redo the layout files.

How could you think such a thing? I think the Japanese Camandos snuck in and moved the planes on you.

WOW!

This is not a hobby holding on stubbornly to a very old piece of software, this is an ongoing history lesson about WWII!!

My personal knowledge about little covered or even forgotten, yet vital, episodes that shaped the destiny of the conflict increased a thousandfold over the years, just by reading SOH CFS2-forum threads or flying historical campaigns written by SOH members.

Thank very much you guys, for sharing your knowledge!

Cheers!

Just to add to the discussion, I haven't had this issue - but Bearcat, you may be further along than I am in the campaign?

At last I have some time for cfs2 again, and I installed and started to fly this campaign over the last weekend.

I'm now at mission no. 10, and so far did not have the problem with wingmen crashing into parked aircraft.

In one mission I experienced something I hadn't seen before: I got hit by return fire from a Betty, nothing serious, or so I thought, so I kept going after them. After a while I noticed the oil pressure of my Wildcat dropping. By this time I was engaged with the Zeroes.
I managed to get away, flew back to Henderson (without warping, I wanted to see if I would make it before the engine failed) and landed with the oil pressure reading 3 PSI.
I didn't know that this effect was built into the sim. I certainly makes sense to check your instruments every now and then!

Thanks for the great campaign, Talon!

Skylane, that's one more small example of why we call this a combat simulator, rather than a glorified "shooter game". While its nowhere near the mark of perfect aeronautical realism, it gives us many realistic effects and dynamics related to combat flight damage. What you've experienced is the by-product of a fairly well-constructed dp file communicating with the air file's oil pressure parameters. Gotta love this stuff. :applause:

Skylane,

The info I just got is that Pappy Boyington stopped by Henderson and took Bearcats squadron to a drinking party.Need I say more?:icon_lol:

Good thing you told me about this, Talon!
I have to make sure that Pappy doesn't invite my squadronmates next time! :))

Nah, it so happens that it wasn't the parties after all (the boys have gotten quite accustomed to these occasional downtime binges) :icon_lol:. It seems that the chief mechanic and his happy band have been busy in the wee hours tricking out those Pratt & Whitney's. The Cats are a bit too torque-y on the power up roll outs for some of the rookies. But on the upside, the hotshot Zero aces from Rabaul have even taken to calling the Canal "the island of death" :wiggle:, the term once reserved by the Imperial ground troops sent here to die. The Rabaul aces come down here looking to tangle with tamed Wildcats and are shocked and awed by our "wilder" Cats :icon_lol:

usmc campaign

Hi
I want to ask you about the progress in part 2 & 3(p-40)

cheers

This will be a 31 mission campaign starting in August 1942 flying from Henderson Field, Guadalcanal. The Marine Aces are - Everton, Smith, Galer, Bauer, Foss, LaBlanc, and Swett. I have 29 missions done and only the LaBlanc and Swett mission to go. Some of the goals are difficult, remember you go up against overwhelming odd at times.

There will be 6 different Wildcats in these missions and 1 SBD that you will fly.

I have worked on the effects in the DP files on all the Japanese planes and smoke and burn more.

I plan on doing Part 2 where you will be flying Corsairs starting in February 1943 until July 1943.

Also planned is USAAF operations from Guadalcanal flying P-40s and maybe some P-38s missions.

I still need to do some work on GSL scenery for the last 2 campaigns so it will take awhile.

I only have a few missions done on the USAAF part.I'm still doing research and finding planes I need.
I also work on several projects at the same time that's why I don't put a time when things will be done.

Sometimes it takes me along time to do things because of the research and I don't do missions everyday because then it's to much like work and not fun.

Sorry to drag up this old thread but having just installed this campaign and the aircraft repaints that go with it, it appears that the texture folder for the f4f-3 from VMF-224 is missing, Ive substituted one of the other skins, but is this one available anywhere?

The texture used for this plane is one of the original textures that came with it. It should be named texture while the others are texture 1 and texture 2.
