I've come back again and to enjoy discussions about WW1 aviation and I am shocked to see this thread still active. What is going on. There are more appropriate places to discuss politics. Not in a WW1 aviation forum. Time to leave AGAIN!

I'm not a fan of censorship where no one has been insulted or defamed,it's just people holding differing views. However the great news elswhere on this forum may cause this thread to die away without anyone's help.

Correct, everybody might be too busy, waiting at their maiboxes, to argue :ernae:

I have no stake in this thread one way or the other but if someone has visited this thread and didn't like the discussion and then came back and complained, it's your own damn fault for coming back the second time. What, did you think it would be different the second time 'round?
Be proactive: if you don't like it, don't enter again. Pretty simple.

Listen pal, I have had this forum on my computer as my homepage since I joined 3 years ago. I have every right to revisit a discussion if I wish, whether you like it or not. I didn't visit this forum by mistake and have my 'delicate nature' upset by this thread, I read all threads on this forum because it is the best, most civilised around- and I care about it. Plus it caters for WW1 aviation enthusiasts- and that is what it has traditionally been about. I would like to hope it will stay that way, especially with the release of P3. Alright mate? Pretty simple.

C'mon guys...OFF is out!...let's get back to the flyin'

Tally Bally ho!

Well I'll probably get slammed for making more comments but I don't really care now.

Let's look at this fictional scenario. A minority group of Zimbabweans get slaughtered in their own country by dictator Robert Mugabe. Germany declares war on Zimbabwe and after years of fighting kill the evil dictator and the war ends. The surviving minority group, and relatives who managed to escape, are offered their own nation by Germany to live their lives out peacefully. It is California. The encumbent population are ordered out and the Zimbabweans take over. Do you not think this would cause ongoing resentment by the population kicked out ?

Possibly.

Now let's consider another scenario

A majority group get slaughtered in their own country by an invasion of greedy people, and forced out of the lands that have been theirs for centuries.
The surviving (now minority group)and relatives who managed to escape are offered a tiny proportion of poor, un-farmable land.
The encumbent population are ordered out, and the invaders take over.
Do you not think this would cause ongoing resentment by the population kicked out?

(History lesson covering Australia and the USA in almost a paragraph):wavey:

The Indians were a stone age civilization, they were just begging to get conquered.and Europe was more than happy to oblige:amen:

I'm still trying to figure out how nothing was said, when Italy invaded Ethiopia. And pitted Mosalinni's tanks against those lads in the loin cloths, armed with spears . .

I think in the end we can all agree. It's a cruel world, no nation exempt, and there's nothing any of us can do to change that in the big picture, besides try and live our own personal lives as honorably as we see fit depending on the situations we find ourselves in currently.

Despite all this, if invasion and tactical response is not the answer, what is? We can argue all day long but until another solution is brought forth, its all irrelevant. I honestly, cannot from my experience dealing with these sorts of cultures think of another way. Having said that, I'm not escalating this thread any further.

I enjoy all you guys and gals and the WWI history everyone shares here, and don't want to see "cyber-clicks" tearing the community apart, but it is nice to hear opinions. After all, it keeps open-minded people from becoming too extreme to one side or another!

What an intelligent and well written reply Danny!

With that, I am off to mug the Postman, and see if he is carrying any OFF dvd's!

Interesting topic though, but going around in circles (bit like the area of the world that is it's subject matter):ernae:

Stay Safe out there matey!

Hello,
as long as no one feels hurt - there are some great posts here. Speaking about truth or calling a spade a spade is not a bad thing, and no one should be afraid to post his opinion in a free world - censorship may be useful in a war, but not here - only my opinion.

I liked what NS13jarhead said in a post well above this one, about the indian chief, and Israel's Itzhak Rabin..

However OFF takes place in a war, and the action is intended to - if not really thank god - shooting down "adversaries".
The reasons for this "Great" war, as it is often called, might as well discussed here as anywhere else. This was a time where nobody thought there would be more of those, and that world wars would have to be numbered.

The first loss in every war is the truth. All sides lose it right after the beginning - and even if propaganda was not invented in WWI, it sure was the first time it was used at that scale, to influence people and pull nations into this war. You have to dehumanize the "enemy", before he can be killed with a "reason", as a handle to kill him without mercy.

Thinking of this WWI happening now more than 90 years ago, there may have been some "improvement" in informing the public - in all kind of contemporary official war reports, propaganda and "independent" coverage. So everything we see and hear should be taken with a grain of salt. History only makes sense when debating about it afterwards - for the common man there is almost no thinking or sense while it happens.

Danny, this post was much better than WWI was "great".

Greetings,
Catfish

P.S. @ Foute: If you are interested in war propaganda, like germans killing babies, drinking blood, crucifying canadian soldiers or sinking civilian and hospital ships you might be in for a surprise. Same applies for Entente soldiers blinding and torturing german prisoners etc. etc..
Good start would be here:

and there are much more.

Well said Danny and you other blokes. All opinions should be welcomed so long as there are no personal attacks. Keep the emotions out as much as possible (difficult sometimes I admit). I''m very pleased that this thread hasn't been closed to date and has allowed people in a mostly mature way to state their opinions. Democracy in action. Sometimes they are closed too quickly imo. Closed threads also don't look good ! We really do have a great community here and I'm proud to be part of it.

Well said....group hug!:ernae:

Ok, folks.

I think everyone has made their opinions abundantly clear. Seeing as how this is not a political forum, I am going to respectfully close this thread. As others have said, you are welcome to visit Oso's Outhouse if you wish to comment on these types of matters.

Let's get back to silk scarves, leather helmets, goggles and castor oil!
