Aerosoft: Free Catalina Island scenery!

actually the Catalina Island scenery is part of the Aerosoft's 'US Cities X - Los Angeles' scenery. But now they have released it as a free and fully functional demo

Anyone else getting bleed thru of the default runway at KAVX? Thought it might be some Catalina scenery I've tried over the years, but I removed or deactivated all the Catalina scenery I've installed.

No, I have no bleed thru at all on my system. The airplane shadow does do funny things when you taxi over the bumps built into the runway. That just may be FSX.

Very nicely done! Just took a nice flight from Meadowlark at Huntington Beach out to Catalina in the Piper Tomahawk. Island was nicely rendered and the airfield had some nice details and touches. Only issue I had is the Catalina airport didn't appear on the list when I tried to call up the tower. Other than that it's a great little add on...

If you have ORBX Global and the freeware airports then these are interfering with the Aerosoft scenery. There will be a way to cure it.

The third picture brings back good memories for me.
I lived on a sailboat in Marina Del Rey for over ten years, which is on the mainland about 35 miles North of Catalina.
We spent many days in Cat Harbor which is in the background in the picture, it is on the southside of the island.
It added about 1 1/2 hours to get to the back side of the island instead of going to the harbor in the front of the picture, but it was a lot quieter there.

Thx! I remember flying to and landing at the 'Airport in the Sky' in a DC-3 when a was a little squirt in the 50's.
I couldn't believe we could land 'big airliner' on that little tiny runway when I looked out the window.

You can go into fsworld\ORBX\FTX_GLOBAL\FTX_FTXG_AIRPORTS\Scenery and rename :ADE_FTX_FTXG_KAVX.BGL and ADE_FTX_FTXG_KAVX_CVX.BGL to something else and they will not appear in fsx.

Then if you prefer the ORBX version just put the names back in their original format.

Tried that but when I boot FsX it comes up with a series of .dat file errors.

The first indication that anything was wrong were two Cessnas several metres off the ground. Turns out these were part of the freeware Global airports packages that included Catalina airport.

same situation here...KAVX is not on the comm list anymore
