LDR Navion Painting Contest

Ladies, Gentlemen and tubeliner pilots...

I have the distinct pleasure of announcing a fun little competition for you all at Sim-Outhouse...

As you know, we recently released our Navion B... and as we have mentioned, there is an A model / L-17B coming soon... (TBA)

The competition is as such;

I invite you all to paint your best 'retro' paint schemes on the B model Navion representing an aircraft from the 1950s. It can be civilian or military, fictional or real.

The winning paint scheme as judged by LDR (Me, Larry and Dave), will be a part of the A model release package!

The rules:

1: Entries must be received by the 1st of January, any after this date will not be considered except in special circumstances agreed with LDR.

2: Artwork must be original. This doesn't mean you can't copy an existing real world paint scheme... you just have to do it yourself!

3: Any decisions made by LDR Development are final and binding.

4: This is not a contest to prove who is the best artist alone... our decision will be based on originality, effort and quality of the work... A perfectly produced simple scheme may still lose out to a more original and interesting design, so be creative!

5: The aircraft must look at home in the 1950s. Modern designs will not count! If you could imagine your aircraft flying in the roaring fifties... its in!

The winning artist will be given the A model paint kit a few weeks before the release to allow them to convert it to fit on the new aircraft. Don't worry, the differences in the kit are minor and largely relate to the 'don't paint me' layer and a few subtle changes like the baggage door. I've converted some of my own schemes to the A to test, and it's a simple process. The finished scheme will release with our A model package.

Good luck, and Happy painting! We at LDR, and the rest of SOH look forward to seeing your work!

I have been looking at the Navion, and I was feeling something along these lines was missing (still wip):

so you've given me a good excuse to get started..

Not missing... just tactically omitted due to the future arrival of an aircraft more suited to such schemes ;) Hence the contest :)

aha!
I also noticed the textures for the cockpit vent on the side are mirrored, so I can't paint them..rats! Maybe on the new version...?

meanwhile, an update:

In most schemes it didn't matter... so we left it to save space, but the A doesn't have them... so no problem!

Here is one based on a RW A model.

Rats, just realized I forgot to turn off the window posts for the shot.

Don't worry about it as most of the early 'A' models had the two-piece glass anyway. The one-piece glass modification was a later, after-market, option. We will still be offering the choice between one-piece or two-piece glass though as some like one version and some the other.

Benoit, I'm glad you like it, but I wasn't that happy with the metal textures, so I redid the texture, alpha, spec and spec alpha. See what you (and all others of course) think?

Hello Jan,

The new one is better for me. Thank and bravo.

Benoit

Jan Kees, of course difficult to decide on just two static pictures, but I personally prefer the new metal textures.

Cheers,
Huub

I also agree, and I think N5287K looks downright fantastic! That's a scheme that really seems to fit this bird. Beautiful work as always.

He does do good work doesn't he?

That second black and orange bird is stunning Jan! Keep it up!

Come on folks! I hope to see lots of entries for us to pick between for the contest! Who knows? I may not be able to decide on a single one...

all my Navion paints so far are now on OZx, if you like them, do post a screenie here?

Happy flying,
Jan kees
