I could whip up that twin wasp rather easy. make it into a weapon Bgl and attach it like a pylon. then when you alpha channel the cowl it would be exposed.

what do you think?

Finished and ready for installation.

P&W-R1830A engine.

Send me your email Bob and I'll send it to you ASAP. I would upload it now but I have to do a readme for it.

I'm going to do the Wright Cyclone as well.

These are David Eckert's original FSDS models exported to gmax and resized to fit the stock models, well at least the F4F4 Wildcat. You or I will have to add it to the DP. The center of the engine is on the zero so it will just have to be moved forward. You will have to alpha the textures for it to be visable.

I'll let you know when the other one is ready.

The Wright Cyclone is finished.

I'll do up the readme and get it uploaded.

I was thinking that the OH versions might work better for the repaired models. That would only require a texture. You could have half of the cowl removed without too many issues. Just a thought.

A new entry has been added to Add-Ons Library, category CFS 2 Other Add-Ons

Description: CFS2 Object Pack - WWII Radial Engines
By John P Fortin (Blood_Hawk23)

These are two WWII Radial engines-Thank you Brad. The Pratt and Whitney R-1830 and the Wright Cyclone 2600. These where made for the damaged and repaired models project. The original models were FSDS models by David Eckert. All that I have done is to update to newer FSDS models and export them to Gmax. The models were then resized to fit into the stock CFS2 aircraft. Finally made into weapon BGLs.

Updated the scale which was still a little big.

The comments you make there will appear in the posts below.

I have followed with interest your progress on the "Damaged Aircraft" thread. These engines will be great additions to CFS2. Thanks for uploading both engines. They should work very well along side Capt. Kurt's personnel BMPs.

Blood_Hawk23,

I agree with Worthless. It will be great to have some additional tools for our modelers! :wavey:

Well they work great on the players AC. but you can't add the to static ACs. It might be an LOD issue i don't know. but they aren't showing up on the static planes. though they do look good inplace on the players AC. alpha out the front of the engine and put them in place.

mount.0=0,0,1.52

for the wildcat.

so what to do now... Atleast I didn't jave to spend hours appon hours. maybe if i change the model type.

if anyone has an answer please let me know. I have the Source files if anyone wants to work on this.

I do have to make a few corrections.

The first is a goof on my part. As pointed out to me by fellow member Brad Kaste, These are not rotory engines. I've been working on WWI ACs for so long that I have Rotory on the brain. These are infact Radials. Sorry about that. Thank You Brad for pointing that out too me.

The second is the scale is still a bit off. I used the converted model of the Stock F4F4 Wildcat to set the scale but it seems it shrunk in the wash. the Pratt is about 2% too big. The valves are poking out abit. For now I'll leave them and try to answer the Static AC Question.

I'll make an engine stand and place them as inf objects for now. maybe add in a crane for the ground crew too use. David made such great models that I'd hate to let these die off.

I'll make the corrections then get to work on some static models.

correction made.

Engine installed

Here is the engine in the OH F4F4 Wildcat.

P&W installed.jpg

It looks good but I need to update the model again. I'm going to add a Sleeve around the engine so that you don't see thought the side of the plane. I'll make it very thin so its not seen through the cowl.

Pratt & Whitney fully installed.

I told the ground crew that I didn't like the holes in my plane. so they fixed them.

P&W installed V.2.jpg

I added a sleeve around the engine. if you move it back too far in the DP you will see the gap. I have not added this to any other plane. Only to the Wildcats. I think this finishes the OH F4F4 Wildcat nicely. I hope you will too. To bad when you warp you'll loose it.

Update:
Anyone wishing to do this to the Advenger use this hardpoint location.

mount.X=0,0,1.52

You maybe hard pressed to find room if you use them on the OH Advenger.

BH,
Am I missing something or am I just inept. I can't seem to get the engine to show up. Here's what I did.

[HARDPOINTS]
mount.0=0,0.054,-0.311
mount.1=-1.412985,-0.3,-0.309969
mount.2=-1.412985,0.6,-0.38 // L drop tank
mount.3=1.41299,-0.3,-0.309969
mount.4=1.41299,0.6,-0.38 // R drop tank
mount.5=-1.412985,-0.3,-0.309969
mount.6=1.41299,-0.3,-0.309969
mount.7=0,0,1.52

[PAYLOADS]
payload.0=%payload_name.0%
payload.1=%payload_name.1%
payload.2=%payload_name.2%
payload.3=%payload_name.3%

[PAYLOAD.0]
mount.7=PnW_R-1830a, 1, 0

Could just be a simple oversight on my part. Thanks in advance.

Bub,
Nope, Your right. You are missing one little step. Which I may have not pointed out clearly. You have to Alpha out the front where the engine is.

I'll post the Alpha Channel so others can see. As you know its not hard to do yourself.

Alpha.jpgView attachment F4F4-Alpha.zip

Add that bmp in the Zip folder with MW's dxtbmp. Just import it to either the stock F4F4_wildcat_t texture or to both of the OH F4F4 wildcats f4f4_wildcat_t & f4f4_wildcat_r textures. then save as an extended bitmap DXT1 or DXT3 (not sure if the DXT3 is the better choice or not). Then it will look like mine.

Do the same to the Avenger for the Wright Cyclone engine.

If anyone wants to add either of these to any other model please let me know how it looks. I have not tested them on any other model. If we need new sizes I'll make them.

I'll add these instructions to the download. I'll also add both alpha channels.

Download Updated...

I've updated the download too include the Alpha channel instructions. Plus I added both trans.bmps for use with MW's DXTbmp so that they can be imported.

This will work for either the stock or OH versions of the wildcat and Avenger.

Should work for the B-24J and stock as well. there is an LOD issue as you zoom out. could be my models that are not multi-LOD. not sure.
