the USFS has given final approval of the paint scheme for the new C-130H's to be tanked for firefighting..seems it will take 8-10 months to do the conversions, tells me that in a bad drought year (3rd year really)were in for it,seems we just have the CalFire fleet, tanker 10s two DC10s,and a handfull of BAe-146 and P2V,oh Coulson has their tanker ready to go which will be awesome, and ericson has their MD80 ready..but im not convinced it will be to effective.

The same drought your getting continues up into Southern Oregon where I live, rainfall so far is about 20% of normal for the year.

yes..i understand its pretty wide spread in the west.
Ya know Calfire had 400 wildfires in January alone....0 last year, and most years for that mater.

Daveroo, how I WISH we had something like CAFIRE here in Colorado, even if it's a quarter of your air assets! I think it would make a big difference in the Summertime and to the Fire crews that have to deploy.

i dont understand it either...i see the cost issue, but a dozen SEATS ,and 6 S2T's in EACH western state would help alot...the Grass Valley S2Ts fly fires fairly deep into Nevada every year...they at minumum should have some IA tankers spread out the state.
