Cars and Engines

BIG ENGINES MISSING HERE - And that's the turbos from the 1985 and 1986 season where they were 1000+ hp

Hey All,

No learning objective whatsoever - just do you know engine sounds. For those cars I don't.

What is the point to big horsepower missing? i didn't design the quiz.

I guessed the Veyron and the Renault F1 V8, I mixed up the DB9 and Lamborghini, and also the Ferrari V12 and BMW V10.

Well, at least I didn't put the wrong photo in the quiz.... ;) (The Enzo has a photo of the new LaFerrari!)

EasyEd,
For the 2014 season, F1 has 'returned' to turbocharged engines. There have been some comments about the new engines sounding terrible but IMHO, there needs to be comparison with the old turbos to see if these new engines do indeed sound 'terrible'...

They sound very odd.
The old 4Bar boost turbo engines literally made the Earth shake, and given the different designs (V8-V6-Inline4 in various flavours) over 1000HP was the norm, in 1986 the BMW engineers recorded a reading from Gerald the Burglar's Bennetton B186-BMW at the 'old' Ostereichring of over 5Bar, over 1200BHP=/- loose change.
At the AGP the new power trains (because that is what they are) barely reached 100DB compared with the previous engines 150+ level, every other competition category reached higher sound levels than F1.
However, at least one aspect of F1 is back at the cutting edge of technology, despite the best efforts of the FIA Fascists to impose their reams of bureaucratic red tape on the teams.
