I'm Back! Almost... x16 vs x32 Resolution Issue (Win 7 x64)

Hey All ~S~

As you may remember, I came back a couple of years ago, however, massive issues led me to making a set of 8th Air Force UIRES screens before uninstalling the game and taking a break.

At the minute, everything is going rather well, except for one thing: My resolution will go to any including my native (1920x1080) however all resolutions are 16 bit not 32 bit (1920x1080x16 instead of 1920x1080x32) this is creating some massive graphical quality issues for me as you can imagine.

I have tried (will update this list accordingly):
-Installing in a non-standard location (putting in the stock x86 causes massive problems)
-Tweaking the resolution in the .cfg file
-Running as administrator
-Running in Windows XP SP2 Compatibility mode
-Firewall is off
-User Account Controls are all off

My Specs are:
Nvidia 580 GTX 3GB
i7 2600k
16gb DDR3 Ram
Sabertooth P67 Motherboard
Windows 7 Home Premium x64

I hope I have given enough info about what I've done so far, as to not waste any of your time.

Thanks kindly for any replies!

Jack

Hi Jack,

Welcome back!

My specs are very similar:

Nvidia 580 GTX 3GB
i7 2700k 3.5 GHz
16gb DDR3 Ram
ASUS P8Z68 V Pro Gen 3 Motherboard
Windows 7 Ultimate x64

CFS 2 is installed on the secondary HDD.
Running as administrator
UAC off.

I was previously using Windows 7 Enterprise and had no problems apart from the 1024 x 768 instrument panel resolution which is a Windows 7 gremlin.

Since changing to Windows 7 Ultimate I sometimes have problems with low frame rates. This can be fixed by going into window mode then reverting to full screen - very odd.

Apart from that everything is running well.

I just kept an older XP computer, updated it right before MS stopped their updating and run all my Sims on it. If need to upload something, I go to my windows 7 computer, D/L it to a flash drive in install it on my XP. I intend to stay with XP as long as I can with my Sims. I don't use a laptop for that, but I know many of you do.

Hi Jack,
Sounds like it may be a monitor driver issue.

Have you installed your specific monitor screen drivers or did you let Windows deal with it? I would try installing the specific driver for the screen, that will give you more control over your resolutions etc.

Cheers

I'd love to get an older maching to run European Air War, CFS1, Mig Alley etc!

One day!

Afraid I'm just using an HDMI straight into a TV on my desk. No drivers needed,

Cheers!

Strange, We have almost identical systems, but a big difference. Are you able to run in 32 bit colours without problems?

Thanks!

I'm running 1920x1200x32 on a Dell UltraSharp monitor without any problems. I can also switch over to a Sony Bravia 46" TV via HDMI without any problems.

Are you able to plug in a monitor rather than a TV to see if that makes a difference?

I'm afriad I don't have a monitor, just this,Cheers for the reply, Jack

bump?

Sorry, just trying desperately one last time to see if someone has a magical solution :(

have you tried the setting for your graphics driver. maybe take a screen shot of your settings and we can come up with something to try.

other wise i'd look for some one selling an old LCD monitor. I think it might be an issue with the HDMI. Go around to some yard sales. you might find an old rig dirt cheap.

I am running win 7 x64. I have problema to play with some many panel , I am changing the panels for the stock panels.

I believe that it was a problem with some update of win 7. Because when I instaled for fist time win 7, I do not have this problem.

:banghead:

The panel lock up is well know on Win7. You can fix this by going to the aircrafts panel.cfg and removing render_3d_window=1
