Hey Bro; looks like yer gettin the hang of it!!
NICE WORK!!
Deleting the .dat's & CDP's really screw most people up in the beginning.
They are both generated automatically by CFS2
(if not already present when the sim is opened) They are both needed to run the program.
The .DAT's tell the program what is in the particular scenery folder. If you install something new, the DAT must be regenerated for the prog. to "see" the new addition. Otherwise it is ignored.
The
CDP's are very similar.
DP stands for "
Damage
Profile". This tells the sim the physical characteristics of an object. Basically speaking: it's size & how much damage it must sustain before the point that it is destroyed.
(plus other info)
CDP stands for:
Cached
Damage
Profile. This is the file that the sim actually reads.
Example: In the
AF AA Pack; some of the objects are updated & improved versions of the original CFS2 files. If they have been previously displayed, then they have generated a CDP. In order to display the improved version the CDP must be deleted or the old object will be shown because the sim is reading the old CDP. Simple right?
I hope this helps you & everyone to better understand just what is going on inside CFS2.
Nahh; I ain't no genius. Just a dumb-a$$ who's become a smart-a$$.
Lots of other SOH members have helped me to understand this stuff, I'm just returning the favour for you Bro. :gossip:
This info just saves quite a bit of:
