New NASCAR Rule

I will have to agree with NASCAR on this one. Getting out of the car before a safety vehicle is positioned to protect the driver from other race cars is incredibly dangerous. I guess it means we will no longer see things like this.

And we will have to settle for watching angry drivers bang their cars together and fight on pit lane or the garage area.
 
Common sense ruling for once, then again, did they say what happens if a car is on fire?
I missed that one.

If there is smoke inside the cockpit or if there is fire, get out and stay near the car. Drivers are not to walk across the track, just wait for the safety crew. This rule and the fire exception was demonstrated during Sunday's Pure Michigan 500.

This is what the new rule says :
"Section 9-16 On-Track Incident Procedure -- During an Event, if a racecar is involved in an on-track incident and/or is stopped on or near the racing surface and unable to continue to make forward progress, unless extenuating emergency conditions exist with the racecar (i.e. fire, smoke in cockpit, etc.) the driver should take the following steps: (...)"
