Sceneries Available

As a rule, I no longer post much scenery even though I am always fixing up small airports around the country. Scenery seems to garner little if any attention or comments and I see no reason to upload them if no one is interested. Since I no longer have FSX or FS9 installed and only have the latest version of P3D (V2.4), the scenery I build is even more limited in it's use. Add to that the fact that I also have Orbx FTX Global and Global Vector installed and that narrows the useability factor down even more. The images below are a "before" and "after" shot of one I just finished near Pensacola.

Many of my airports are from the North Texas Area, given that's where I live. I've done quite a few up around the North East with Old Rhinebeck being the largest and then a few recently in Florida, with Coastal being the one shown here. The availability of good satellite imagery is usually the main factor in what airports I take a serious look at. . .there are areas where there just isn't anything worth using. . .also size is a factor as I don't care to do larger airports that have 50 or 60 buildings on site and also have no reference material. I just enjoy the small grass or single runways strips tucked away somewhere, they just seem to have more character.

So if there is any interest, given the limits I've mentioned, I'll post a list of the airports and make a zip file to add to the SOH downloads area. Also, if you have an airport you'd like to have done and can supply reference material to give me an idea of what the buildings look like, let me know. I have little interest in flying anymore so this is basically keeping me from dumping flight sim altogether.

Ed, your efforts are greatly appreciated. I live in northern California and love to see productions of the small airfields around where I live. Your work is fantastic and I know I speak for many who live in Texas. Please continue with the projects and post here at SOH.

Would be great!!

Oh man, saving stuff would be great! And the offer you made, being willing to make wanted scenery would make me VERY happy!

If it's allowed to send you a pm with some wanted scenery, please let me know.

Happy new year!

I don't have a problem doing small airport sceneries if there are decent references for the buildings on-site. I can get the basic sizes from Google Earth, but it's the actual buildings faces that I usually have to guess at and that just leaves a lot to be desired because it's rarely accurate. A PM is fine by the way.

A short list of Current Airfields that I know work with "Orbx Global and Vector". They may work with other ground textures but Orbx textures are more realistic, deeper and use yellow more than previous textures I've used. Also, I don't, as a rule, do full seasonal textures. . .it's a personal preference, these do have night maps however but otherwise they're a Spring/Summer only experience. I don't care for fall or winter because everything's dead and uninteresting. All of these have custom buildings with a few default items thrown in as filler. . .also some grass but not much. . .it's a pain to add and you rarely see it unless you're sitting still and it's not worth it to me for those brief seconds when you notice it.

Ed, here is a suggestion for a small airfield (airpark). This one is located not too far from Mobile, in Bayou La Batre, AL., called Roy E. Ray Airport (5R7). Only reason I know of this place is because a friend of mine (a retired USN Parachute Rigger Senior Chief) has a restored Stearman, and lives there at the airpark, with his own hangar, etc...

Not a whole lot of aerial shots available that I can find (leastwise not great ones), but am sure if I asked my friend, he would take some pictures next time he is flying, and has the time. Pete

Pete, if he could get good shots of a couple of sides of each building on the airport (not the homes, I can do fair representations, enough to fill), the satellite image will give me sizes and the resolution in those areas in pretty decent.

I messaged him, Ed. He will get back to me soon, am sure. Thanks, Pete

Ed, although I still have FSX mainly for testing and flying on line, we have the same setup as sim of choice, ie P3D 2.4 with ORBX Global+Vector. I also have OpenLC Europe which totally transformed my country. I had several airport project in mind for Greece and I tend to make them fit that setup, as this suits me best. I will still share them though for anyone interested.

Having said that I would much love to have your airports setup and enjoy them when flying in the Texas area. I still fly P3D a lot so nice scenery that fits ORBX Global+Vextor is always welcome.

Ed, Would love to have your North Texas airports. Spent several years of my childhood between Denison/Sherman, Atlanta TX, Vivian LA and Magnolia AR.
