Corsica and Solenzara

Enroute to Solenzara (LFKS) from Bastia (LFKD)

is Solenzara still a mess with trees all over it? If not, what did you do to fix that?

Probably the Solenzara scenery was built with photoscenery in mind, which means they perhaps forgot to "exclude" any local autogen that you would get with generic scenery...
In his screenshots above, Gray Eagle does not have any autogen, because that photoscenery doesn't include any, and he has not installed the freeware autogen yet. So his Solenzara airbase will probably be free of any trees (excepted the ones included in that airbase scenery).

No it is not a mess any longer. I used that freeware version and then added that autogen file mentioned before; I moved them to the top of the scenery heap in FSX
then, I added the Zara airport and a few more. They all work with that freeware scenery and not as bloated as would of been with the payware. I enjoyed the flying over
the scenic and colorful mountains etc. I figure, after awhile, I'll wander to another scenery to visit and won't have to reclaim 3GB of HD space for something else that comes
along.

:adoration:

Au contraire. The bases looked greait I didn't post any pics of the bases but they do work with the freeware Corsica that I mentioned earlier. In fact, I add a few more bases and they
looked great. I did install the freeware autogen as well. See my comments ^

Yep, I got the freeware configured and the autogen set up etc. Very nice, though I think the reason the freeware photo scenery is smaller is that they toned down the image contrast, making the scenery a bit more washed out than I like. I decided to bite the bullet and buy the France VFR scenery and take the 3GB hit. Below is a pic from the freeware though it has been photoshopped to bring up the contrast to what I hope the full payware looks like. (Im cruising at altitude in my realair spitfire...that old girl remains one of my regular dates for years now!)

Yes, the freeware photoscenery is smaller simply because of its resolution. It's only 2 meters per pixel, while the payware one is 1 meter per pixel. That's 4 times heavier.
But again, to cruise at middle altitude around the island, it's still quite enjoyable for the price ;)

Welp. I bought the France VFR Corse scenery. Downloaded and installed it. Its very nice. Having said that, I discovered one problem. The airfield at LFKO Propiano is displaced as shown below.

I have my Corse Photo scenery with agn files installed in the /texture directory and that works fine. I have my Zara x Solenzara AB files installed above that in the scenery.cfg file. Anybody know why I would have this problem? Interestingly I did not have this issue with the freeware scenery or the default. I also toured the other Corsican airfields and saw no problems. Just here at Propiano.

You mean the payware version or the freebie one?

The freeware one. It's not perfect, but it's enjoyable for the price (which is zero ;) )
The payware scenery is quite good. Corsica is now the place I fly the most. All my test flights are done from Solenzara.

The Corse Photo HD package from FranceVFR does not include any enhancement for airports. What you see is still 100% the default airport, which is ugly and misplaced.
Fortunately, there is a freeware package containing many enhanced places, including airports. Let me find that link again...

Gray Eagle, I actually downloaded and installed the freeware and got it working no problem with proper alignment of that one airport and all, just like you.

I decided to "upgrade" to the payware because I liked the quality of the overall scenery better and just splurged for it. Anyway, generally all good except for LFKO Propiano. Downloading some freeware VFR airports for Corsica now to see if that fixes things.

This fixed the issue. One has to download the initial package, then patch it to version 1.2, then install. still some elevation issues with a couple of air fields but nothing major. I use FTX Global Vectors and their AEC tool corrected most of it. Now all seems well!

I wanted to post some screenies but my OZX album is no longer available due to site changes. I moved to OZX from Photobucket as I was afraid that my albums might be in jeopardy due to changes there. Seems I made a bad choice.

Now with Imagebox:

Yes it is by far!

Zara had been my startup base for many years and I've tried them all (listed on my website) and the version by SkyDesigners is the most accurate and realistic while still being easy on the frame rate.
:ernaehrung004:

I stayed on Corsica in summer vacation a few years ago when the coalition struck Lybia to oust Gaddhafi. Solenzara was extremely busy during that time with Mirages, F16s, Transall and Hercules taking off and landing all the time. As well as a Super-Puma helicopter patrolling the perimeter frequently. Also nice to watch were the returning jets, sometimes buzzing the field in tight formations. Our camping site was just a few klicks northeast on the beach. I drove up to the adjacent hills and watched the action on the airfield below and can confirm that the Zara rendition of airfield look very accurate, just like I remember.
Everyone was mumbling and cussing about the noise, hehe, I think I was the only one around who actually appreciated it and craned his neck each time a Mirage took off with full AB.

Cheers,
Mark
