Nobody at MS is fired , thats soo pasee , they get realigned ...
Kelda Rericha of Edelman, Microsoft's public relations firm, said
"to align our people against our highest priorities." this is english i know but where do they learn to talk like that ? , do you need a degree in spin from Berkley or MIT, can you picture a room full of grad students together talking like this getting ready for an exam ... am i getting too old ?

Don't you just love it when a bunch of overpaid MBA's get together and start talking about realigning their assets to bring their cost structure in focus with their business model and so on and so forth....?


Also, I'm wondering, as a few people on here, Avsim, and a few other sites have posted, if there is a remote possibility that in the future we may NOT be able to install our copies of FSX and activate them. Has anyone read the EULA to see if we are "guaranteed" to be able to use this forever? I mean, if they do this to their own employees they could just as well say "screw Joe Consumer" and abondon everything.

This is what we in the software technical writing industry call "weasel talk." It's where you talk a lot but don't say anything. :jump:

Also, I'm wondering, as a few people on here, Avsim, and a few other sites have posted, if there is a remote possibility that in the future we may NOT be able to install our copies of FSX and activate them.

There are other ways and means. I have only ever activated my copy of FSx once - never having had to reinstall it for any reason. IF I ever do upgrade my computer in the future ,(and I am finding even now that my current machine does everything I want of it ), I am prepared for ANY eventualities of the future. You can too - if you want to.

These are some good points guys..

Aces have worked closely with FSDeveloper.com and have many tools there for SDK related materials. Perhaps Aces will be able to 'pass the baton' to them concerning FSX activations, if incase they do shut down assistence with such things.


In the mean time, download the SP1, SP1a, and SP2 updates and store them on CD. Take the time and do this now.

The thing I would like to know, is if Flight Simulator was making money for MS, or was it losing money?

I can't imagine even the most gonzo economically-abstract upper management letting a profitable segment of its business go - unless profits placed on a 'curve' showed an increasingly and dramatically diminishing revenue that even a future release of FSXI and the country out of recession (as it could be in two or three years, around FSXI release time) wouldn't redress.

Either there were sound grounds for the decision, or it is symptomatic of the high-level management thinking that has lead to the economic situation so much of the world finds itself in today. I wonder which it is?

I think better yet, buy yourself a copy of FSX Gold, or if you already own FSX Deluxe, go get Acceleration. that way you have everything you need on Disc.

I will say one non PC thing about the EULA. F&%K the EULA. As far as I am concerned the EULA is null and void with Microsoft's abdication of the throne.

I paid for the program and I will use the program as long as I wish to do so.

I already have FSX deluxe and Acceleration, what I was thinking though is if one has to reinstall or like I'm getting ready to do, build a new system, won't we have to go online to activate it again?

According to what has been widely reported, both the X-Box and PC Games divisions showed an increase in revenue, but the losses from Zune offset those gains for a net decrease...

Make of that what you will, but the decision to axe ACES is a complete non sequitur... :monkies:
 
I'm fairly sure the activation method is the same as used for all other MS products, e.g. Office, Windows etc., certainly it was the same number I had to dial to reset the activations on my XP and FSX discs. So I doubt it'll become impossible to activate FSX anytime in the near to medium future as it wouldn't save any money, after all it's not as if MS have stopped selling FSX I'm sure they'll be able to make plenty more money flogging the discs and it's all pure profit.

Reference the decision to axe ACES but keep the money losing Zune division. MS are committed to entering and dominating the mobile market, Zune is a part of that strategy and they've shown in the past that they're willing to throw vast amounts of money at things they're committed to. ACES didn't really fit into MS long term strategy, Zune does, that's why ACES was sacrificed to maintain share value.

Heck, I don't even use the radio in my car!

My cellphone is my only phone. Although it has SMS
capabilty, the only text message I've ever sent was
yesterday to some spam-slammer who texted me,
telling them to STOP sending unsolicited messages :rapture:!

I want to say... 'Bill, dude!! you are missing out!'

But then I think of how I come down from my buzz of learning Mac, searching for new Apps, combing iTunes for new things, be it a App or podcast about flying, doing work on Gmax, Photoshop, etc.. and when in bed, I find myself, at almost 4AM, reaching for the iPod Touch to check the weather, time in Europe, read a segment of the Bible, listen to a Joyce Meyers or Andrew Womack podcast, and find myself fighting a battle against techno-saturation.... arrghh..

data... must.. sleep..
