I've always found the high RPM sound of Ant's otherwise fantastic T-28 to be earsplittingly loud. While this might very well hold true for the real thing, it made for a minor annoyance in FSX as I could hardly understand ATC. As this was a very specific scenario, it also didn't warrant turning down my speakers or meddling with the engine volume slider.
So long story short, here's a quick fix for the engine volume at high RPM.
Go into the Trojan's sound.cfg and add the following line to the end of the [Combustion.1.03] and [Combustion.1.07] sections:
This will limit the volume of the respective sound sample to 85db (8500/100).
You'll still get a volume and intensity increase across the RPM range, but at the same time, you won't need ear protection anymore.
This tweak (with an appropriate value) can by applied to any entry in any sound.cfg file, by the way. Great for fixing annoyingly loud stall warnings or fuel pump sounds or so.
