Hey guys,

Reading this, I am struck by one overriding fundamental question. Why bother with SOH? What possible data could you obtain from a flight simming website? Why in the world would this be worth the time and energy?

Please don't give me the George Mallory line as an answer.
 
I think the answer is they want access to as many servers and bandwidth as possible that that when the time is right, they can launch coordinated attacked from many sources.

I'll forego the Mallory quote, although elements interested in your data may share Mallory's logic.

At the risk of being labeled a "tin-foil-hatter", I'll offer my observations, which are supported by publicly available, hard data.

There are, unfortunately, elements who find your data invaluable. The rub has always been that collecting your "personal" data without going through due process is illegal. The digital revolution has created a massive data market, ripe for the harvesting. There is still a prohibition against un-lawful collection of personal data. There is however no prohibition against collecting metadata, and this is where the third parties become involved.

Phone companies, Facebook, Amazon and the lot are constantly collecting and storing your data. In the case of Amazon and others, the data is profiled to predict your purchasing and behavior habits. This explains why I can log on to a bookstore/coffee shop server in Bardfark, Oregon and instantly the popups are targeting me specifically, even though all of my travel expenses were done in cash, and my card strip data is protected by a Faraday shield.

When a government becomes interested in your data, the third party who holds it can, and will offer that data for sale. Last year the U.S government spent over 9 Billion dollars...taxpayer money...on acquiring data that they deem relevant or important. This is not meta data...it is hard information about the entity the data refers to.

In the case of corporations the same applies. Your medical records, purchasing details, travel history and banking information are for sale to anyone willing to pay for it.

As it applies to this site, it is most likely the demographic that is the primary target. We are mostly coming up on retirement age and many members have a military background. Your behaviors and interests are a high priority to the various intelligence apparatus, private and government. The areas of primary interest are your pension/retirement funds, your future health and your thoughts on those who would meddle with your affairs. This demographic data is gamed through multiple algorithms to predict what you may do under any and all circumstances. That profile is layered over your psychological profile and geographic map of your past, current and probable movements. If you are of a military background, own weapons and may or may not have a history of PTSD for instance...you may garner particular interest.

In reality, Facebook and Google are the primary social media conduits for metadata harvesting, but all social media sites are bulk harvested as well. Your I-Phone or I-Pad run a close second. Your data that you choose to transmit (un-encrypted) is fair game to any party interested in intercepting the signal. Everything is harvested, stored and analyzed. All of these data collecting entities have one thing in common, they are considered third party and in that definition they are not breaking the law by keeping and selling your data.

There is no longer a distinguishable line between a government and private sector address. There are so many contractors and "straw man" companies out there it is quite impossible to say for certain who has been pinging a given site. This is a very sophisticated industry, garnering stratospheric profits and thus, automatically opens the door to massive corruption and influence peddling.

The Zuckerberg argument that says "if you have nothing to hide, you should not fear this intrusion (paraphrased)" is on it's face devious, myopic and fundamentally reprehensible. The law is very clear on this issue when it mandates probable cause.

Currently the Trans Pacific Partnership is being "Fast Tracked", or at least the attempt is being made, through Congress. The contents are being tenaciously withheld from the public and from those expected to approve it's passing by legitimate vote, which has now degraded to rubber stamping legislation you have been forbidden to study. What?
The contents that have been leaked to the public suggest that the secret legislation will further erode the specific intentions of international law, giving corporations the right to supersede common, sovereign, state and national law...as it suits their own purposes. Admittedly, this is a very shallow and cursory evaluation of the legislation, but the intent any secret legislation is always suspect and should therefore be under the most intensive scrutiny.

This is not intended to be a rant, but an examination of hard data relating to Rami's question, and has been offered with due respect to all members of this site.

Despite the logic behind acquiring metadata, the reality is that you cannot trust anyone with the data. Case in point is my real life experience.

In the mid-80's I created a proprietorship out of my home to perform engineering work for a Seattle customer. After changing full time jobs, I followed the process of closing out the business which includes notifying all authorities responsible for tax collection.

Twenty five years plus later (about 2012) I started receiving solicitations for the proprietorship. These were basically applications for business credit cards that were addressed to the company I had closed out.

After performing searches on the web I found a couple datamarkets with that information, and informed them that the company no longer existed. To my surprise they had my proprietorship listed with a gross income of over $1 million annually and employees ranging from 1 to 64. It dawned on me that if the IRS or local tax collectors got wind of that false information, they might be knocking on my front door with their open hands.

Anyways, I had to track down multiple sources of that "modified" and inaccurate information. Some removed the bad data, but others pointed their fingers to Dunn & Bradstreet. After explaining the history to the D&B representative over the phone, my company records were catalogued as "inactive" and so far I've seemed to have stop the use of the bad data.

Bottom line is that someone had collected and modified the data on my proprietorship and sold it to others as good data. And as one friend put it, "Once on the Internet, it stays on the internet." Like I said, no matter what the justification you just cannot trust anyone with data.

I see that my efforts are working as I use to see 50 a day and the number s is now much lower now, and I am sure some wish i would stop because I am revealing secret IP's, lol and they have stopped.

If they would say they would stop and are sorry, I would remove their IP's listed above. Until then I will post them (and save their code) as it happens.
