This plane has long been an issue, meant to ask about it but forgot.I would like to use it as it is the best PBY have seen for CFS 2 but it seems to have some issues with CFS for me anyways. When I try to load it for missions created with ME, it often causes CTD.Also, cant use it as an AI plane? Caused immediate CTD when added one to mission and tried to run it.Anyone have a solution? Thanks in advance.

Dasuto247,

It could be a light fix issue if it's an FS9 convert. That's a pretty common problem.

Have you tried BeePee's conversion of the Alpha PBY-5? Look in the Warbirds section under Other (Aircraft). It comes with several different skins. I have had great success with this version, and the least problems. He has several different skins in the Skin section.

I downloaded it, giving me trouble as well as it will not show up in free flight.Showed up in ME though.

ME? You mean Mission Builder? If yes and it listed for AI aircraft but not as a player aircraft than it is set as a AI only with in the .air file.

Yes, Mission Builder.Well I doubt that is the problem, it is a flyable plane, not just AI

Dasuto,

There was a fixed mdl with the g_lightStates CTD error fixed. This makes it show up for QC & FF. I don't think the zip was ever updated.

Here it is

I checked that it loads OK.

To be honest, the Alpha cat is good, but its not multi LOD, & not terribly user friendly for repaints.

Check the FS2004 forum, you'll see Shessi is working on a revamped Alpha PBY5. I'm sure he has some updated CFS 2 multi-LOD birds on his slipway ...:running:

Thanks for the fix, it worked. Now, any idea on how to get the gun blisters to open? I need to figure out how to add autopilot because the autopilot panel does not show up, AP is pretty much imperative for PBY missions.

Please don't sweat it D247, as UT says I'm re-doing the whole PBY-5 series.

Alphasim's PBY-5 doesn't have rear opening blisters or crew etc, but this one will. Just finishing it about now, and of course there will be a CFS2 version, it will have a few LOD's, but is poly heavy due to curves, crew and an initial detailed gmax build. Luckily PBY missions didn't have tens of ac in them!

Cheers

Great news, look forward to trying it out.
