Piaggio PD-808 by Mario Noriega released at avsim!

Sascha66

Charter Member 2015
I tried the FS2004 version and its great!

FSX version:
http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID=fsxac&DLID=133890

FS9 version:
http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php...ac&DLID=133889

This is the avsim [FONT=verdana, sans-serif][FONT=verdana, sans-serif]File Description:
This is a complete simulation of the Piaggio PD-808. It includes advanced engine management, realistic systems, and some failure modeling. The model features a complete 3-D virtual cockpit, and a 2-D panel. Sounds are inculded. The external model features all typical animations plus a load of custom ones. Also incluides all custom special effects, including different selectable floodlights for the virtual cockpit (by simply flicking ON the proper light switch on the cockpit itself). Plus with a fly-on-the-numbers flight dynamics file. Includes full documentation. THIS IS THE FS-X RELEASE. IT WILL NOT WORK PROPERLY WITH FS-2004. THERE IS ALSO A FS-2004 RELEASE THAT WILL NOT WORK PROPERLY WITH FS-X. THis is the "RM" variant of the aircraft and base package. Other PD-808 variants will come next. This base package with the RM version will be needed for these to work properly.

Great to see this newly modeled! and for both sims, too!

Great little plane that never made it "big time".

The plane is cool, the VC is complete but I get a HUUUUGE fps hit in the virtual cockpit. Anybody knows why ?
The FPS are back to normal in the external views, it must be a gauge or something. My FPS drop from locked 25 down to 15 only in the VC. No other FS9 plane has such an impact...

All of that talk about FSX ONLY FSX ONLY FSX ONLY... yet it ISN'T A FSX MODEL...

Never even got to my FSX folder. Deleted. :hatchet:

It might be because its not a native FSX model

Just checked and only saw one MDL file. I really don't understand the reasoning at calling any non FSX model, an FSX model if it isn't. Words like compatible, or compliant throw most users off, why can't NATIVE be the definitive common term when talking about a model compiled using the FSX compiler, how hard is that.:karate:

Hey... Its done!

I remember he was working on this quite a while back. Must be a nice model.

Bill

External is nice and the VC if very functional. My only
complaint is the view from the VC...no right wing, just
the tip of a wingtip tank 'floating' out there.
Looking out the left window there is a full wing but
the tip tank is truncated just aft of the wing :(

These days with VC's and TrackIR it is rather imperative,
IMO, to 'finish' those portions of the external model that
can be seen when one moves from the left seat to the
right or simply looks back over the shoulder....

The default FSX DC-3 is another example of a 'half-***'
model when looking out from the VC...nothing out there
to the right at all....

I wouldn't say it's a case of something being half-arsed. In the case of this PD-808 it's probably more to do with the poly count. It's an FS9 model so it has to adhere to the FS9 sdk and therefore, poly cap.

Very smart reaction....
You delete the plane without even trying it, just because it's not a native FSX model ? :/

Instead of moaning around you guys could try to drop Mario an email and politely ask him for a 100% native FSX model...

But that's too hard, isn't it?

I don't want to bother the author with emails until I'm sure there's not a simple solution found by somebody else already. Mario did an outstanding job on this plane, and I think the performance problem on FSX has some other solution than "building a new native model".

Yes!

I enjoy smooth performance at 30-35 FPS. Portovers can't deliver that kind of performance on my system. Most portovers look like FS8 or FS9 anyways. If I want to use FS9 planes, I'll fire up FS9.

ALL developers, freeware and payware, need to stop labeling non-FSX models as being FSX. Places like Avsim and FlightSim should have a portover section and a true FSX section.

What's worse is when payware developers make portovers and label them as being FSX. That's false advertising. Things should be clearly labeled when you buy them. Too bad other top people in the industry disagree with me, enough to pretty much boot me off their forum (flightsim.com's). When portover payware gets gold AAA awards, something needs to be said. Anyways, that went a bit OT. I'm sure this Piaggio is a decent plane, but again, I fly FSX. FS9 planes are for FS9, not FSX.
