That's what she is....and her source file is in need of TLC, not to mention her ragged and worn skin, but I'm hoping to salvage/save her, at least as a decent AI.

Do you recognize her?

HINT: She served with RAF Coastal Command in the first year of the war until the Sunderlands came into service.

This particular...

...aircraft, Clio (G-AETY), was turned-over to the RAF as AX659 in 1940. She was lost in a crash while serving with 119 Sqdrn in 1941 off Scotland. :typing:

Photos of these aircraft in military colors are rare. They carried the early ASV radar sets and a tail turret installed during the conversion to RAF service. Sixteen of the original forty-two survived WWII. The last one was scrapped in 1954 when taken off of display in Australia. :kilroy:

The very bottom photo below shows an experimental installation of three quad turrets, two dorsals and the tail. LOL.

I gotta admit, I cheated... I've been tweaking the conversion of the FS9 bird by Jens B. Kristensen otherwise I would have had to look it up....but it looks like your dedicated cfs2 model makes a conversion unnecessary...so...can I still have the quart of Knob Creek? :ernae:

Cheers

She might just be...

...too much trouble to bother with. :faint:

She would have to be better on the FPS's than a converted bird and a bloke wouldnt be flying around with a bunch of em anyway, So as long as just one is in the air at a time the frames shouldnt be too much of an issue would it? :kilroy:

Fitting the three Boulton Paul turrets would tricky. To do her justice in wartime guise would probably warrant a new build unfortunately.

Conversion?

Is the FS9 conversion posted somewhere? If so, what kind of FPS is she giving out? :help:

I've found the cause of my version's low FPS problem and it can be corrected (It's in the engine nacelles.) and she can be LODed. :jump:

I'd do the military version with the tail turret and ASV radar antennae, neither of which is that big of an issue, but she'd need a new skin. :engel016:

You could be right that she'd be too much trouble for what would amount to mostly an AI. :hand:

Maybe just a simple AI of the civilian version used on the Middle East and Far East routes.

Needs study. :typing:

SG's Sunderland is already filling the wartime role pretty well. :kilroy:

I dont think this bird has been posted as a conversion. I was fooling around with it awhile ago and put it aside to write missions.
I was looking for some civil a/c to use in tne Hong Kong to Darwin corridor in late 41 early 42 time frame and never got around to testing the frame rates and I'm betting she isnt multi lod either.
If you want to see what you can do with it, I'll send you what I've done so far which is not a whole lot...

Cheers

Do send her...

...along and I'll see what can be done.

I just finished cleaning up the old FS2002 source file.....and quite a job it was.....and she still has issues. :kilroy:

I've got her into native CFS2 format and multi-LOD for pretty fair framerates....actually damned fine FPS. I had to rip her engine nacelles out an totally replace them as they were the cause of her being a framehog at the outset. :faint:

She might do as a decent AI with good FPS when I finish. :gossip:

I want to do the military version ....:jump:

Gavin C did a mod for radar antennae as payloads ... could you add a tail turret in the same way - you could use 1 a/c model for both armed & unarmed versions?

... or is it quicker to do a separate model altogether?

It can be...

...done either way. I prefer separate models usually. They're actually easier to do than wep BGLs once you have a tuned source file. :amen:

I don't...

Looking good TR.

Where do you find the time???

...have the time....I steal it. I'm retired, but still have a full schedule to deal with. LOL. Don't know how I ever found time to work. :wavey:

I hate to say....

...it, but I've about decided to abandon this project. No use wasting more time on a project of such limited interest. :faint:

I've fixed-up the source file and produced a CFS2 native model in LOD with great FPS, but she is still not up to par and has a crappy set of textures. I don't even like her as an AI. :kilroy:

Let a winner run and cut a loser short, as they say. :engel016:

HI TR,
It seems a shame to waste the work that you have already done.

If I may be so bold as to suggest that you package her up as is (perhaps including the source) and release her into the wild.

Even if she isn't up to your standards I am sure she is more than merely adequate. Besides someone else may have the time to put on any finishing touches.

As for the textures, I am sure there are one or 2 people here who are handy with a virtual paint brush

Just a thought

Thanks
Gavin

HINT: She served with RAF Coastal Command in the first year of the war until the Sunderlands came into service.

The G Class, with Hercules engines, was heavily armed, with three Boulton Paul turrets, one of them at the tail. It was not an experimental fit but an operational one. With your C class you can build it!

Cheers
