The Ongoing Mystery Aircraft Thread Part Deux.

Thanks for the pinch of charity there. Should have dialed it in a bit more.

Must be something to do with the Gallic penchant for disrobing at the drop of a hat............well in most of the movies I've seen anyway.)

Hehe. Does Sheona know you are watching these films?:biggrin-new:

Back to the matter at hand. This obscure West coast twin is sure to be in Wout's crosshairs. Better not wait too long...

I have doubts about my own answer. The aircraft I mean has a much darker paint scheme (at least on the photos I know of). I do have an alternative reply and that twin comes from the same city!

It is the Ott. Splendid Walter.:very_drunk: Powered with two Ranger engines. (Mr. Ott is still with us btw, and living in Napa, CA).

Curious though that I lifted the photo from a magazine dated December 1961 so the Aerofile date may be suspect?

Hi Kevin:encouragement:. Thanks. When I saw your pic, did not immediately recognize the Ott. Colourscheme etc., nut remembered the blunt nose. Attached photo is the best I have seen. Sadly engines were removed at the time.
Wished I had visisted Mr.Ott (for a better photo) when I was vacationing with my uncle during the 1970s. He and my aunt lived in Napa, Ca for decades. But the Ott was not yet in my files then!. Aerofiles may be wrong (c.1961). I have my details from EAA`s Sport Aviation and they mention 1966 or Sept.1967 for first flight.

N7755C Ott V-2 Special. For what it is worth, the FAA register says the registration was cancelled 30 July 2013 and as A/W date 29 September 1967.
Another twin from Napa, Ca.
Have no further details and not even an N-number. It is just described as the David ...... Twin.

Thanks for the additional info on the Napa twins.

Are we going open board here or do you have another for us? (Assuming the David twin was just to show us and not to be investigated further?)

The second twin from Napa, Ca is the Ely Twin, built by David Ely who started the project at age 19.
All I know is that it had a retractable gear, engines were two Continental C85s and that the aircraft was lost in 1964, the year after it first flew.

I second Kevin`s suggestion for OH, but hope that anyone may have more info on the Ely Twin.

Hi Baragouin :encouragement:
The 1940 XB-1 it is. Substitute the regular beer for a local delicatesse??

Thank you very much for the superb photo-video on the Lascurain XB-1. A real delight to watch with so many clear pictures, as you mentioned.
It remains funny that the testpilot does his job in his best Sunday suit.
Can I subscibe to tour video collection? :jump:

Brilliant, Kevin, on the Mexican oddball !

Not 100% sure on BG's floater, but will settle on the Martin T3M-2.

Sorry Lefty she's from the US however not a Martin but from an equally super-important manufacturer.....(Aerofiles claims this would be the only torpedo plane ever built from this manufacturer)....
