OT: The truth may be released soon ...

The first thing I thought of when I read that article, is that it reminded me of one of my favorite old B&W sci-fi flicks.

It was called "Five Millions Years To Earth", made in the 60's and based around a long buried space ship unearthed in London. I went and saw it at the movie theater when it first came out. It was one of the creepiest movies I'd ever seen at the time.

It's been a very long time since the last time I saw it on TV, but I think it would still be worth watching even today. It was very well done for the time.

Funny little story around these parts about UFOs...excepting the well documented RAF Woodbridge encounter....was back in the seventies when one was spotted at high level over Bentwaters and Woodbridge, apparently it was quite a common occurrence back then. In those days the RAF had the task of aerial defence, normal scrambles achieved nothing with the bogey being too high for a good intercept. On this particular day some bright wag had the idea of going off to the West and away from the target, turning a full 180 degrees and accelerating to Mach 2 at low level back toward the target, then zoom climbing when right under the target.

Needless to say the 20 mile long by 2 mile wide swath of broken windows from the two Lightnings at Mach 2 and sub 1000' AGL was considered by the MoD to not be in the publics best interest...you don't say !, the exercise was not repeated :), and yes the little green men got away again...<SIGH> LOL.

Strange thing is, having lived around here for over thirty years I still recall the sonic booms we used to hear nearly every day as aircraft went feet wet and transited through Mach, they'd probably have been Lightnings ( Mmm Lightnings, second time this week there's been posts on them ) from Wattisham or Phantoms from Bentwaters and later Wattisham. I'd forgotten that childhood memory until this thread :).

That will be cool.... If it actually happens and the US doesnt stop them.. Russia got tired of no anseres and finally went public, but then later went quiet again, so something was up.

Just last week I heard on the radio that the British goverment gave the RAF permission to shoot down any UFOs penetrating British airspace.

sure, why not? after all, the chance of them hitting one is virtually nil.
even if they do exist, they can't hit one. there's no way they could navigate all the way here through space, dodging all sorts of debris, to come here and be struck by the technological equivalent of a boy throwing a rock.
besides, if they can master the science to get here from so far away, pissing them off is a monumentally bad idea. allowing a pilot to shoot at one would only serve to make them laugh. if they even exist in the first place that is.

That one spooked me as well! Have not seen it in years. Wonder if it would hold up at all or just seem silly now?

I almost put in my original post that I bet it would still be very watchable.

I just checked over at Netflix and they have it in inventory under it's other title "'Quatermass and the Pit ". I was surprised and not surprised at the same time to see it with a 3 1/2 star rating. Not bad for such an sci-fi old movie.

When I was reading the description of the movie I had forgotten that the underlying storyline was that humans were decendents of alien manipulation. I think that might make it one of the earliest flicks I can remember that hinted at that theory.

On that second post above I have for the YouTube movie, Russian Migs chasing a giant cylinder, that cracks me up, lol.. Giant, basic cylinder, straight sides, hard edges, out running a Mig, lolol.. Reminds me of the Borg or that ship that comes for the Whales in one of the Star Trek movies..

But.. This one is real.
