This is a repaint of the Fightertown Design Group 2 (FDG2) B-17E. It represents aircraft 41-2666 of the 43rd Bombardment Group. The crew referred to their plane simply as "Old 666", in reference to the tail number. On June 16, 1943, this aircraft and crew left Port Moresby for a photo reconnaissance mission over Bougainville and Buka islands in the northern Solomons. They got the vital pictures back to Port Moresby, but at great cost. Pilot Jay Zeamer was seriously wounded, and bombardier Joe Sarnoski was killed. Both men received the Congressional Medal of Honor, marking the only time in WWII that two men from the same plane and mission received this honor. All seven remaining crew members received the Distinguished Service Cross.
