Bell P39N of 32nd Squadron Hato Field Curacao March 1944

Bell P39N of 32nd Squadron Hato Field Curacao March 1944 1

No permission to download
This repaint depicts a Bell P39N Airacobra as flown by First Lieutenant Donald L. Baker from 32FS 36FG in March 1944. 32nd Fighter Squadron was based in the Netherlands West Indies (also known as Dutch Antilles) from March 1942 until March 1944. Their original task was to fly anti-submarines patrols as German U-boats were very active in the Caribbean at that time. The task of chasing German Wolfpacks gave them the nickname Wolfhounds. The unit operated from Dakota Field at Aruba and Hato field, Curacao. On various occasions the squadron escorted the Lockheed L14 Super Electra PJ-AIM of HRH Princess Juliana (later Queen Juliana) when she visited the Dutch oversea territories during the war.

In support of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation the USAF stationed a fighter squadron at Soesterberg Air Base in the Netherlands. Because of the USAF tradition that units stationed in foreign countries should have an historic tie with this country the 512th Fighter day squadron which had arrived in the Netherlands in November 1954 was renamed in 32nd FDS in May 1955. 32nd squadron would remain active from the Netherlands until January 1994. The “Slobberin Wolfhound”, which was introduced in 1942 remained their until logo during this period.

I wish to thank Tom Wood and his simTECH Flight Design team. for the lovely P39 model, which is perhaps a bit dated now, but was sensational at the time it was released. I also want to thank Martin White for his graphic tools, which made doing this repaint possible. And Mario Warnaar for writing his book "Slobberin Wolfhounds" which contained the all information on which this repaint is based.
And I would like to thank Al von Pingel, Kalle Busse and Ian Elliot, as they supplied me the motivation to start this repaint.

Enjoy,
