These textures depict the Messerschmitt Bf-109B (V-3 prototype), flown by the German ace Hannes Trautloft. Trautloft one of the first group of Luftwaffe pilots to join the Condor Legion during the Spanish Civil War. He was selected to be the first pilot to test the Bf-109 V3 prototype under war conditions. The prototype V-3 was repainted with the code 6-1 and a green heart representing Thuringia, Hannes Trautloft's home state, in the green heart of Germany, was applied beneath the canopy.
Trautloft's personal marking later became the unit insignia from Jagdgeschader 54.
