Hi there ! After the first combat efficiency improvements in the 1980s, called "Peace Rhine" and the delayed introduction of the Eurofighter, the German Air Force was left with an aging fighter... To make sure the F-4F would still be able to cope with the newer fighters, introduced all around Germany, the "Improved Combat Efficiency" program was initiated. The biggest advantages were the APG65 radar and the capability to finally be able to use the AMRAAM missiles. Thus, the Luftwaffe sent two F-4Fs of JG72, Hopsten AB and a F-4F of the WTD61 to Point Mugu, to test the new radar, AMRAAM and other equipment. Here is a rendition of one of the first "improved" F-4Fs... 38+43 of JG72 "Westfalen", Hopsten AB as seen in 1991. Next to the large patch of JG72 it sported a patch of the F-4 test and evaluation unit as well as the "ICE-43" on the tail. More repaints will follow. Mange takk, Dag for giving your permission to use and upload this one and following repaints.
