Textures only for Paul Clawson's Douglas TBD-1 Devastator. This archive contains textures that depict the leader of yellow section of Scouting Squadron Seventy-One (VS-71), a Vought SBU squadron that had as single section of TBDs for long range search. It was part of the Wasp Air Group aboard the U.S.S. Wasp (CV-7) in 1940. Prior to the outbreak of war the light carrier Wasp was considered too small to operate a torpedo squadron, so VS-71's examples were the only black-tailed Devastators in the fleet. The national insignia on the nose, referred to as the "Neutrality Star," signified participation in the Neutrality Patrol, the ephemistic term for US military efforts against the Kreigsmarine prior to America's official entry into World War Two. by Mick (2005-07-02 16:40:43)
