This virtual aircraft is modeled to represent FG-1D # N9964Z of the Commemorative air Force, an organization who through their dedication to preserving vintage aircraft, help keep history alive N9964Z rolled off Goodyear?s assembly line at the Akron, Ohio plant in 1945. It was originally assigned to NAS Alameda, Ca and was used for pilot combat training. Much of it?s career was spent training in various Naval bases throughout the USA. It was sent to NAS Litchfield Park ,Arizona for disposal in late 1954 until purchased by the Confederate Air Force in 1961. After being acquired by the CAF, N9964Z had the engine rebuilt , and the interior and exterior refurbished. In 1972 it was repainted from the red, white, and blue paint scheme of the CAF to the combat colors of ?Pappy? Boyinton?s ?883? Corsair. Two years later, repairs were needed after N9964Z crashed into power lines, and it sat for several years waiting for a full restoration. This restoration would start in 1980, at which time Vought Corporation stepped in as a sponsor. This lasted until 1985 when the sponsorship was terminated after a change of management at Vought. This aircraft is now painted in the livery of VMF-312, circa 1944, and is based at Lancaster Airport near Dalla, Texas and is affiliated with the CAF?s Dallas/Fort Worth wing.
