his package contains alternative textures for the FS2004 Alphasim Gloster Meteor, which is now available as freeware. The textures depict a Meteor Mk.8 flown by 324 squadron during the mid-fifties. The red on the tail and nose cone show to which squadron this aircraft belonged and the colour of the tail cone indicates that this aircraft was stationed at Twente or Volkel Air Base.
The Gloster Meteor Mk.8 entered service in the Royal Netherlands Air Force in 1951. They replaced the earlier Meteor Mk. IV and Spitfires which were still in service. The Meteor was phased out in 1958, when it was replaced by the Hawker Hunter. The transition to jet aircraft wasn't an easy one for the Royal Netherlands Air Force as 52 pilots lost their lives while flying a Meteor.
CREDITS: Alphasim / Virtavia for the original model and releasing it as freeware. Erik Hertzenberger, for making me do this repaint and Martin Wright for his indispensable DTX1 bitmap manipulator.
This should be it.
Enjoy,
Huub Vink
