For the Flight replicas me262A-1a This aircraft was discovered at Munchen-Reim at the end of the war. It is quite a colourful Me-262 with the blue and white chequered band of KG(J) 54, yellow 3 and bar from III Gruppe and a slightly unusual version of the Totenkopf emblem in the Staffel colour of yellow. It also has an overpainted stripe on either side, previously yellow. The other main distinguishing point is the "blotched" or "snake" tail, this painted tail style has erroniously been identified as belonging exclusively to Kommando Nowotny (the first fighter Staffel) but this is another of the longstanding Luftwaffe MYTHS that have been passed down through time. The truth is that the snake painted tails were experimental wooden tails that were retrofitted to various aircraft and very few (if any) were ever in Kommando Nowotny as they were manufactured at the same time (or later) as this unit was disbanded.
