P-51D 552 'Mrs. Beak' was flown by 1Lt Edward Mikes Jr. of the 458th FS, 506th FG, from Airfield No.3, Iwo Jima. He had a prominent nose and named the fighter after his wife. Having shot down a Japanese fighter on 10 june 1945, he was forced to parachute from his disabled aircraft into Sagami Bay on 3 august, where the American submarine USS Aspro picked him up, while a fierce air battle raged overhead. Repaint by Jan Kees Blom, based on the paintkit by John Terrell.
