This is a repaint only for the WOP P-51D and WWII Fighters P-51D. This aircraft, owned by Henry Reichert of North Dakota, started as a collection of parts. The aircraft was built from the ground up at Tri-State Aviation, Wahpeton, North Dakota, with the wings and flying surfaces totally inspected and rebuilt by Bob Odegaard of Odegaard Aviation in Kindred, North Dakota, and the remainder of the restoration project was undertaken by Jerry Beck and his crew at Tri-State Aviation. The quality of work can't be beat. The original "Dakota Kid II" was based at Steeple Morden, England, and was piloted by North Dakota native Noble Peterson. Peterson flew 106 combat missions over two tours of duty, as a member of the 355th Fighter Group of the 358th Fighter Squadron. Peterson is credited with three known kills and four probables. His crew chief, Robert Coleman, a native of Long Island, convinced Noble to add "Long Island Kid" to the nose as well. Included with this repaint is a fully restored, fully authentic "don't scratch the paint" cockpit to match the fully restored exterior.
