This is a repaint skin (textures only) for the Spitfire MkVc Tropical from Skyunlimited. www.skyunlimited.net Thank you to Cerberus and crew for this great plane and the paint template. This texture represents the Spitfire MkVc flown by Sgt Claude Weaver, 185 Sqn, Kendi, September 1942. This A/C was flown to Malta from the USS Wasp as part of Operation Calender on 20th April 1942. Once at Luqa airfield it was assigned to 249 Sqn and placed into heavy usage straight away, being constantly used through the summeruntil passed to 185 Sqn. It was flown by several pilots including American Claude Weaver, who was flying it on Sept 9th on a sweep over Sicily. Weaver destroyed a Macchi 202 before himself being shot down by another MC202 that damaged his coolant system. After the Italian armistice Weaver again took to the air with 403 Sqn. He died on 28th Jan after an FW190 of 6./JG26 shot him down over France. At the time of his death he had 12 confirmed air kills.
