"ARMAGH"
This was a "presentation" Supermarine Spitfire MkIIa of 19 Squadron,
based at Fowlmere in June 1941.Presented to the RAF by the readers
of the Belfast Telegraph newspaper.
In the hands of Flt Lt. Walter Lawson it shot down
a BF109E and damaged another on June 27.Lawson went on to
claim 6 destroyed and several damaged in his 16 months
with 19 squadron until, when flying another aircraft,
was posted missing on August 28 1941.
Later this aircraft was converted to a MkV and transferred
to the USAAF in late 1942.
